I recieved an application in the mail for the Credit One Bank card, I thought that they were associated with Capital One so I filled out the application and mailed it in. I needed to pay off my child's braces, and I wanted to make smaller monthly payments rather than the $250 payments that I was making to the orthodontist. When I got the card in the mail I immediatly realized that this was a mistake to have applied for this card, after reading their terms. I cut the card up and threw it away. The following month I was billed from Credit One Bank for $25, then billed agin last month for $25. I sent in the payments, thinking that I was paying my Capital One bill ( a big mistake, but Credit One Bank looks very much like Capital One, which is another one of their clever deceptions ) I started thinking that this bill was odd, so I called their 1-800 number, and I got a automated voice prompt telling me to activate my card. I tried to get around it because I did not want to activate the card, but I was not able to navigate around the activation prompt. You literally cannot talk to an agent until you activate the card, so this was coercion. I had to call back in order to talk to an agent. I told the agent that I was billed for an annual fee even though I had not wanted the card, and had cut it up and disposed of it, and had not actived it until forced to do so by their system setup. The agent acted unconcerned and said, "Well, you sent in the application, didn't you?" I said yes, but simply sending in an application should not mean that you accept their terms. So even though I decided not to accept their terms and conditions, they immediatly billed me $75 even though I did not activate their card. I have now read all of the online complaints about this company and have learned that they also do many other unscrupulous things, the worse being that you can't seem to cancel this card, so you are more or less stuck with paying these extortionists their excessive fees. I am going to attempt to cancel the card, but I have read other complaints from others who tried to cancel the card, and upon cancelling, find additional charges added to their accounts, so they can keep you or should I say force you to stay enslaved to their scam. I hope that legal action will be taken against them, and I will support any such legal action. What they are doing has to be illegal, and they need to be shut down.

Credit One is a decent company

I am only repsonding to the post that I was reading when they were Stating how Credit One is almost like Capital One Credit. I have both accounts and Ive made a number of comparisons in the two Credit Card Companies in the line of Interest Rates, finance Charges, and Customer Service SKills. I have to disagree with the ones who are saying that Credit One is not a Good CC company.
They first off allow one to improve their Credit Rating faster. Credit one also has lower Finance Charges and also their fees are better. I'd suggest that some people need to do a little better job of "Reading" the terms and condistions a little better. also put the two cards against each other, I believe that youll find they look nothing alike.

Recently I cancelled a Capital One account and when I got this I thought it was Capital One begging me to come back. Being an ex Capital One customer I'm amazed at how they get away with making thier logo look so much alike dispite claiming the companies are not related.
So I got this letter and decided to call. I only cancelled Capital One because they would not drop the annual fee and this one had all sorts of bullets like "no enrollment fees" all over it.
Being skeptical, during the acceptance process I noticed they did not ask for my social or claim they would run a credit report (another indicator I thought it was Cap One because I had run one with them less than 30 days ago and obviously they had it already). So I decided to ask their FAQ some questions. One I asked was about "fees associated with this offer". The recording told me "please refer to my offer letter for fees and APR. The problem is the fees and APR aren't even listed on the letter, not even a range. I convinced the automated system to finally let me talk to an agent that told me there is an annual fee of $75.00 and a crazy high APR. At this time I told them I wasn't interested, case closed.
I will say their use of Capital One's logo and their intentionally hiding the APR & annual fees alone make this company one that people should avoid doing business with. I can't imagine the other parts of doing business with them being any better.

Credit One Isn't Reputable

-I applied for a credit one card after I got a pre-approval code, and before I activated my card I received an $81.00 bill. I'd only accepted the offer two weeks prior, and already had a bill (they're supposed to be a week or two longer). My anger was because I didn't activate the card yet, but the company was already acting as if I had. It doesn't say fair business practice to me. I have 4 major credit cards of Discover, BankofAmerica, Citibank, CapitalOne, and I've NEVER been charged interest or billed before activating a card.
I called and closed my account as soon as I got the bill because I was irritated that Credit One would pull a shady move like that. (After doing research, a lot of people have similar complaints). I would rather have a mark on my credit score than do business with such a slimy company.
-I help my grandmother to manage her own credit one account. (I didn't know she had one until after I got mine). But she hasn't used her card since October 2010, and she was being charged annual fees and couldn't pay down her card because Credit One forces customers to pay $9.95 for same day payments (no REPUTABLE credit card company does this to me). And my grandmother was getting a $25.00 a month late fee because she didn't realize her payments were being processed late. Many places will accept it as on time if they know that it's been billed before the due date.
-I finally called customer service and was able to get the fee waived for her to get a new credit card (an online account is impossible to make without a credit card number). I'm paying payments a week ahead for her now, and as soon as the account is paid off, she's closing it since she doesn't use it.
Final Note: Two days ago, I received another pre-approval code from Credit One. A Legit credit company doesn't allow a person to open a new account for 12 months after an account is close, and even then the person has to reapply. Credit One is a dirty scam.

Not a rip off

"simply sending in an application should not mean that you accept their terms"
This isn't a rip off. You accepted the terms and conditions when you applied. There's a box you have to check and your application isn't processed without it. Unfortunately, you're stuck falling for the same ruse as others on ROR. Yes, they look just like Capitol One, and I'm surprised they haven't been sued for it. But this was your fault for not reading everything BEFORE you applied.
