I purchased 2 show/breeder quality females from Lucy Menshov of DandyBlueBrits.com, Dandy Blue Brits, a New Jersey British Shorthair breeder. Even though I was suppossed to be purchasing 2 SHOW/BREEDER female kittens, it was quite obvious one of those kittens was not breeder/show quality. None the less, after a 2.5 hr drive, I still ended up purchasing both kittens.

Within 3 days one of the kittens (the one that eventually died just 2 months later) started to exhibit signs of herpes virus, and conjunctivitis in both eyes. She had an upper respitory infection, and was put on anti-biotics. Her eyes were "bug like" not shaped like a normal british shorthair should be, certainly not a "show/breeder". After over 200.00 on meds, and 3 vet visits, eventually the kitten slumped over and looked dead. I brought her back to life by nursing her with a bottle 6 times a day, and medicating her again. Within 3 days, she finally died.

I sent Lucy Menshov from dandybluebrits.com a new jersey british shorthair breeder an email and photos of the dead kitten. She told me that the ONLY WAY she would replace the kitten, was if I paid over 500.00 to have a necropsy done, AND that the vet could CERTIFY that the kitten had the VERY SAME illness that killed it, the day I purchased it. Obviously, it would not be fair to ask me to pay yet ANOTHER 500.00 for an autopsy, when the next sentence in her email was stating that then she would decide if I should receive another kitten, OR JUST LOSE MY 1500.00!

Needless to say, after numerous emails, she now just completley ignores me. I spent 1500 on the kitten, and over 400 on vet bills. I am out 1900, and my family is devestated. I have never in all my days heard of such a horrible breeder, who could care less about her animals, and the poor people she sells them to.

My daughter and wife are destraught, and I myself am very angry. I will now seek legal action to recover my costs, along with pain and suffering. Lucy Menshov of dandy blue brits british short hair cats is a FRAUD. She does not care about her customers and left me out in the cold, with a dead cat and a HOLE IN MY WALLET. Please post back if you have had the same problem with this kitten mill. I didn't even realize, though they were the same age, these 2 kittens I bought from her were not EVEN RELATED!

I bought a British Shorthair from this breeder

AUTHOR: Arlene - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 12, 2013

I bought a female British Shorthair kitten from Dandyblue in May 2011.  She is healthy and beautiful and receives regular routine vet care.  Vet has never found any problems.   I saw no evidence that this is a "mill" and would have no qualms about buying another kitten from them.

My cat from Dandy Blue NJ died too

AUTHOR: Caitlin - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, April 28, 2012

My cat was adopted from Dandy Blue and he died of FIP at age 3.  It definitely sounds like your kittens had FIP from what you described.  Dandy Blue has been selling sick kittens for over 6 years and will continue if no one fights them.

#1 REBUTTAL Individual responds

BRIAN from drugs to cats, same practices

AUTHOR: Lucy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 04, 2006

The only true part of this report is that Brian did purchase 2 female kittens (sisters) with show/breeding rights from our cattery. I am not aware of any health problems in the kittens (or the parents, or other cats related to them, for that matter). He visited our cattery to pick up the kittens and apparently was satisfied with what he saw. Also, according to Brian himself, at least until September 18 the kittens were "doing well".

Then, all of a sudden 2.5 months after the purchase and more than a month after our last email exchange where he once again confirmed that the kittens were doing great I received a voice message and email from him stating that one of the kittens "has been sick since day one" and finally died after months of treatment. I was very surprised but immediately responded that I am ready to fulfill my obligations under the sales contract (to replace a kitten that dies from any problem present prior to purchase) and asked Mr. Petruzzi to forward me the medical records. I also suggested an autopsy of the kitten to determine the cause of death.

However he refused to do the autopsy (citing the cost as a reason) and failed to present ANY veterinary records confirming kitten's illness or death. Instead he sent intimidating letters threatening me with 3(!) lawyers he routinely retains for his "other various businesses" (to get some idea about the nature of these businesses and why he needs 3 lawyers it's enough to do a web search for "Brian (9 last name redacted by ROR)) ". This probably also explains why he signed his "report" by his first name only).

Eventually I informed him that I am ready to continue discussing the matter as soon as I see medical records or meet him in court if he believes he has a case against me. As of today I still have not received a single line of medical records and I have not heard from any of his 3 attorneys.

Based upon the above I believe that his claims are false because
a) Any veterinarian upon request will provide a detailed report of illness and treatment without any additional fee. Failure to produce such report means that the kitten either has not been sick or has not received medical treatment it required
b) I also believe that he refused to do a necropsy because he did not expect the results to support his claim. Otherwise as a businessman he should have realized that $500 is less than $1400 (the price he paid for the kitten and AT LEAST what he would expect to receive from me if he could prove I sold him a kitten with problems).

A few other examples of misrepresenting the facts in this report:

I simply don't understand the final statement about the kittens not being related. Leaving it to him.

About the quality of the kittens: I clearly stated to him that in my opinion one of the girls was of outstanding quality, the other had a lower show potential, but still should have been suitable for shows. he had a chance to see kittens' pictures and evaluate their quality himself during a visit to our cattery. The sire of the litter is one of top rated CFA British Shorthairs in this show season so I believe my opinion was reasonably justified. Moreover, I gave him an option to refuse to take any kitten if he didn't like her and wait for another.

In this entire story my only regret and my grave mistake is that I sold my kittens to such kind of person. Unfortunately he is a very sweet talker who presented himself as a long time cat lover and breeder and I fell prey to his charms.

I understand that now, being unable to substantiate his claims, he started to fulfill his other threat: to defame my breeder reputation by misrepresenting facts in hope that I will be scared and pay him off. I do hate to see my name being dragged through the mud but I am sure it's him, not me, who is exposing himself yet another time as an untrustworthy person.
