Funny, I did not come to this site to write a report.  I only wanted to check out Direct TV reviews.  After reading so many "Rip-Off" stories I thought perhaps others should know mine.  Direct TV was charging me for an extra box I never recieved.  Upon calling Direct TV to cancel, I requested a refund for the months they charged me for the mystical box I never rec'd.  Then the call became obserd because not only did they refuse to refund the money, they required that I return to them this mystical box I had never recieved or they will charge me an additional $100!!!!  Now if you have ever had an issue with your boxes you know that Direct TV can remotely investigate whether the boxes are working in your house... So I quickly asked them to simply look into their electronic records of my elleged 'box' I never had hoping the lack of electronic activity may be some type of evidence I never rec'd this d**n box:)     Well, they refused to help in any way and insisted again the not only will they not refund my money for the months charged for the mystical box I never rec'd, they were going to charge me an additional $100 for the box I could not return because it didn't exist.  For all I know the Technician took a box and claimed it was installed at my house... I don't know.  But after hours on the phone with "managers" at Direct TV that sounded like high school aged kids, I finaly gave up and paid.  I do believe this is their strategy!  I am convinced that DIRECT TV trains their  Customer Service interface to strategically weary customers while wasting their time with endless calls until the customers finally give in and pay up!!!   Sue, Milford Michigan

 Sorry but this is something that YOU should have addressed long ago. Like when you got your first bill. To THEM all THEY see is someone wanting a refund on something that is LEASED!!!! Since YOU did not address this issue when it happened, THEY are going to assume that YOU are nothing but a scammer looking to get something for nothing. In fact, if you read the other posts, you will see a similar vein. People making assumptions as to what the company CAN DO and holding the company responsible for events that were TOTALLY in the customers control. Many reports are just like yours because of the same LAZINESS issue. NOW you find that they have been charging you for an extra box. When in REALITY this should have been addressed long ago. Since it was not, THEY have to assume that YOU are trying to scam THEM. While YOU may not like it, it IS what it IS. Its NOT a ripoff by THEM when YOU DO IT TO YOURSELF!!!! The worst you can really say is that THEY DID NOT GIVE YOU YOUR WAY. THAT is NOT a ripoff. The events of YOUR situation are also YOUR responsibility. The company has NO IDEA that what YOU are saying is true. THEY were NOT there when YOUR service was installed. If YOU saw the installation tech take a box and attempt to charge YOU for it, then YOU should have called DirecTv. But YOU DID NOT DO THIS!!! When are consumers such as yourself going to grow up and take responsibility for YOUR problems?? Had you even checked your BILL even once, YOU would have found this out and been able to get it resolved. But since you are doing this NOW, YOU are just a scammer and they WILL NOT allow YOU to scam them, even if you are not. Yes it sucks, but YOU have a 100% responsibility here. YOU DID NOT VERIFY YOUR BILL!!!!! Remember this is ALL computerized. So the company only has the information given to them by the installation people. For all THEY know, YOU wanted a spare box on hand in case your cat threw up on the original box. For all THEY know, YOU just want your money back on something YOU had leased and never used. My point is, is that its easy to sit there at home in your nice little safety zone and blast others. The problem is that in MOST cases, the consumer is either equally at fault or completely at fault. So instead of admitting that THEY the consumer have screwed up in some fashion, people like YOU tend to put it ALL on the company involved, thereby absolving themselves of ANY responsibility. LIFE and the LAW don't work that way. As MANY litigants have found out to their dismay. Yes, the mistake YOU made is a small one. But IT IS a mistake. You cannot NOW ask them to jump back in time and fix a mistake that is on BOTH parties. THAT is completely unfair. Its THEIR fault for charging YOU for an extra box that YOU did not receive, and its YOUR fault for NOT checking your bill to verify the accuracy of that bill. Now I would like YOU to stop for one moment and step back from the situation and LOOK at it. Take the emotion out of the situation and LOOK. How unfair is it of YOU to demand that THEY give YOU a refund on your word alone?? Until there is PROOF that YOU never received the box, YOU are demanding that THEY give you "FREE MONEY" on YOUR word alone that YOU did not use or get that box. Now put yourself into the very same position. If someone came to YOU and demanded money back for whatever reason, YOU WOULD DEMAND PROOF BEFORE YOU PAID ONE THIN DIME!!!!! How, now knowing this, can YOU sit there and blame THEM????? YOU really cant. I hope I have been able to open your eyes just a small bit. Maybe causing YOU to focus on the situation MAY allow you to grow as a consumer. Im NOT saying that YOU as a customer are not owed something, but to make a ROR over something you had an equal part in is unfair and biased. How would YOU feel if someone did this to you??
