I told the bank that I did not authorize this transaction. The lady at the bank told me that on Monday, today, November 12th, they would submit a charge back form. She said it would take a day or two. She told me first to call directv and tell them that I did not authorize the transaction and to see if they will put the money back. She said that they probably will not, and they will probably say that I signed a contract stating they could. But I had to write down the time, date, who I spoke with, and what they said. She said she had another person not to long ago in there that directv did the same thing to them.
I called directv when I got home, on November 9th at 5:45pm. I spoke with a lady named Tracey. She told me that I signed a contract that stated that upon cancellation they can use the debit card on file to take out what is due. I told them I wanted a copy of the contract. She emailed it to me, and no where in the contract did it state this. So I asked her where it was stated. She told me that they sent out an addendumn in April 2007, and I could find this copy online.
I did not recieve that in the mail. Plus, that was not the contract I had signed when I recieved service! They automatically extended my contract without telling me when I got a new reciever for another tv in the house. They increased my programming price by about 40.00 a month. This is why I cancelled the service.
Tracey, at directv, told me that I would see a credit of 220.00 once the recievers were recieved at their office even though I gave her a tracking number and she seen that the recievers were on the way to them. She said I would see the credit in form of a check that will be mailed out in 6 to 8 weeks. I told her no, the money was taken out on my debit card, it will be put back on my debit card. She stated that she didn't know how they would do it, but probably in the form of a check. I told her that was unacceptable. She than told me that she would note the account to expedit credit, but I had to call back on November 12th to see if they recieved the recievers, and then tell them to look at the note on the account for credit.
I will be getting my money back from my credit union in the form of a charge back, but in the mean time I have to deal with all the other companies that I have bounced checks to, and deal with their fees. This is not fair and it needs to be stopped!

do yourself a favor and do whatever it takes to get out from under directv......THEY ARE CROOKS!
the above comment is right...cancel any credit cards listed with directv before you cancel your acct. unless of course you enjoy this kind of drama.
I'm wondering what the liability is for a Directv employee . Telling customers to report their credit card stolen and get a new one......
I would never tell a customer to do that. This is the kind of stunts that Directv and Dealers pull. That make the customers resent having a satellite system .
The only thing you proved is that everything the customers are saying are true about Directv.
If i were a customer and got taken for a ride. Why would i want to stoop to your level of stupidity.
I would just call the creditcard and or my bank. Then fight the charges. If i felt you were in the wrong and I couldnt get through to you.
Dish Network got sued by 46 State Attorney General Office's last year. If Directv has people like this working for them. How long before it's their turn to get sued by the states.

It does not matter to me about any early cancellation fees or charges for unreturned equipment at this point. What does matter to me is the bottom line of unauthorized funds being withdrawn, which is called fraud and theft. It borders on identity theft; just because someone steals your identity does not give them the authorization to use anything that belongs to you. Either way you look at it, it is fraud and theft.

Unauthorized charges on Fraud Directv account
AUTHOR: Frauddtv - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Saturday, December 01, 2007
So I called Directv AGAIN, telling them AGAIN to cancel the account and that it was fraud. They said that it was already noted on the account it was fraud, then why are they trying to hook up service!!
Ok, they tell me how much the early cancellation fee would be so I went ahead and paid that and the bill that was due so that the account would be zero and I wouldn't have to hear from them again. Well, a few weeks later they increased that amount early cancellation fee putting more charges on the account. Then they said they sent boxes for the equipment to MY ADDRESS. They also said they would send me a bill detailing everything (to this day I have not received any bill).
I told the family member to watch for the boxes just in case (which were suppose to come to my house according to customer service but they didn't). Then the family member called FED-EX (which has its own issues) three times for pickup. Mean while I get a call last week from Directv asking me when the equipment was sent, of course I didn't know it was a fraud case and that I would find out. Directv told me that they would call me back in a week to find out. They never called. The equipment was finally picked up by FED-EX on Monday, November 26th.
Well this morning, December 1st, I go to look at my bank statement online and there is a pending amount of $338.60 taken from my account balance. I figured out it was probably Directv because they have done this before (charged me for a football package I never asked for) they are the ONLY company that pulls this stuff. So I call their customer service tell the guy I want to talk to a supervisor. After 15 minutes CS comes on again and tells me I have to tell HIM what happened so he can RELAY it to the supervisor. I told him that I can speak English and tell the supervisor myself. He insists that he has to relay it to the supervisor. Well, finally the supervisor comes on and the first thing the supervisor says is what is your problem!!! Hello, CS already told him. I told him to stop acting ignorant and I had to REPEAT again what happened above.
After talking for about 15 minutes because the supervisor is totally rude and doesn't get it at all, my husband talked to him and my husband had to tell him several times to quit snickering over the phone!!! Finally the supervisor sends me to equipment, why the supervisor couldn't call and verify it himself is beyond me. The kindest person came on in equipment and looked up the equipment information and IT WAS RECEIVED ON NOV 28th!!!! OK, why would I be billed on Nov 30th?? Also it was a fraud account, I never authorized anyone to take money out of my account, I had NO contract with Directv, some one pretending to be me did. Also why didn't they call me first or send an email??
I am sending all of this info to Corporate.
I was told by the equipment dept that she couldn't credit my account but that my case was expedited and that I should get a credit in 5 to 10 days!!! Hello, the amount is still pending why can't they just stop it. My bank said they could. I call back again and talk to another really sweet CS person and she said that she couldn't credit my account because she isn't authorized to credit such a high amount (at least she was honest for a change). I really believe she would of done it. But that I have to wait and my issue is expedited in the system.
Well, this is how Directv deals with fraud. My husband and I have our own account at our home with Directv and I am seriously thinking of quitting them, luckily I don't have a contract with them right now (never will) so there won't be charges.
I think that NO COMPANY should access anyone's credit card, debit card, bank account period unless it is for the monthly amount that was authorized. As far as I am concerned Directv took money off my check card/debit card and I had NO contract with them. They know the account was fraud, but they continued anyway which is fraud.
If an account is fraud then they need to give more time to receive the equipment back. Second, before charging someone's account for equipment they need to make sure that the equipment isn't already there. It was received on November 28th, charge request was done on Nov. 30, no excuse what so ever for that.
I was in tears (I was on the phone with Directv and my bank for an hour and a half trying to resolve this) and my throat is sore from having to repeat myself so many times to the first two absolutely rude CS guy and David the supervisor at Directv. Also David kept putting me on mute, because I would hear nothing and have to keep saying "hello, hello" and he would come on. Directv needs to hire people that really care about the customers. When FRAUD is written on the account, it should have priority.
If I could take legal action I would. Fraud is fraud, Directv contributes to it and they commit it!!!

Directv unauthorized debit
AUTHOR: Heather - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Monday, November 12, 2007
When I spoke with them on November 9th about the situation, I told them the paper that came with the boxes said I had 7 days to return the boxes without being charged for them. I recieved the boxes on November 6th and mailed the boxes out on November 9th. The money was debited on November 5th, which was the same day they mailed the boxes out to me. Tracey told me that the money is taken out 7 days after cancellation. WELL, I cancelled on October 31, 2007. The money was taken out on November 5th. This is not 7 days regardless! Plus, how can I send the recievers back before I get the kit from Directv to send them back?
I was completely aware of the cancellation policy. Thats why I waited to cancel until my contract was fulfilled, otherwise I would of cancelled 6 months ago! I was not supposed to be charged for anything! But, they do what they want to do regardless of their own policy, obviously. October 31 to November 5th is not 7 days, as that policy was not followed either!
It is illegal to debit someone's checking account without authorization. While reading others stories on here, it seems that they make this common practice!

I filled my contract time with them, so I should of been able to keep the recievers as the contract states, but was charged for them anyways. The adendeum to the contract was sent out in April 2007 so I was told, but I never recieved it and was not notified of this change of the contract, and I never signed it. The only contract I signed was when I first hooked up service 2 years ago with them. How am I ripping them off? They charged me for equipment that is supposed to be mine to begin with as I fulfilled my contract.
I sent the recievers back anyways. The contract states you have 7 days before you are charged (not via debit or credit card) and they took it out on the 5th day after cancellation. I didn't recieve the boxes until the 6th day after cancellation.

Why did you give them a debit card for payment instead of a credit card
