We recently moved from northern california to arizona, prior to moving we contacted Ally Van Lines,a moving brokerage company to help with our move, in turn they contracted it out to DMI movers. They called us 2 days prior to our confirmed move to let us know that they were going to be to us the next day to pick up ( this is the 2 days before confirmed pick up). We had to hurry up & finish packing up what we wanted them to take.
Our estimated weight by our contract was for 8,058 lbs. I followed the movers to the scales to get weighed. After getting weighed the driver shows me that we went over our weight by 4,000 lbs so a total of 12,058 lbs. I was shocked that we had that much considering the heaviest items we had was a tool box which weighs 400 lbs max, then a washing machine, dryer & 2 custom built beds which with the weight of the tool box might weigh 800 lbs. [continued below]....
We go over paper work when they arrived for pick up, the driver noticed that we did all the packing & that for us to sign a page stating that. I went thru the house pointing to everything they were to take. They proceeded to stage everything so they driver could catalog & number sticker our stuff. Some items they used moving blankets on, they used our packing tape to secure said blankets & 2 of our boxes for our flat screen tv's.
After they left, we cleaned our old place & set off traveling to our new home. We knew it was only a day or two without having our stuff, but when the day came for our stuff to arrive (we waited till about 11 am) we had to call the company to find out where our stuff was. We were told that they would not deliver for another week. We asked why when their driver asked us when we would like delivery & we told them monday of the next week ( in 5 days). He said he had no problem with that. The company arranged it to deliver on Tuesday morning, so now 3 days without our stuff, sleeping on floors etc. Tuesday morning comes & goes no show from movers. We had to call them to find out what was going on.
They finaly show up @4 pm, in the mean time we had gone over the paper work & called Ally Van Lines about the drastic weight change they told us they could not help unless we could provide the weight tags. DMI couldn't drop evrything off because it was getting late, but they would be back in the morning to finish. Well, morning comes & goes. It is 1 pm when I call the driver to find out what is going on. He said their truck had broke down but had a mechanic on his way out to them & that he would call me back when they were back on the road. I had to call him 3 more times to find out what was going on! Finally they showed up. I asked him" when was he going to call me back?" to which his response was " well I'm here now". He represents a company that he works for, but he lacks customer service skills. 2 minutes out of his time to call a customer to let them know info.
We have been asking for weight tags for over a week & finally got them. Our actual weight was 7,202 lbs. which is below our quoted weight. Which we should get a refund right...? Turns out the one page we signed & the driver drew a line thru was a packing page claiming that they packed up all our stuff: 3 king size beds: false 1 king size bed that I disassembled for them & 1 loft bed that I disassembled myself, that they provided boxes, tape & bubble wrap for numerous things; false we were told by Ally Van Lines to pack up our own stuff to save money ( which I numbered all boxes total of 117, a grand total of all numbered items 180), they used our tape & nothing was ever bubble wrapped!
Futhermore the form that listed all the 'charges' for packing and containers was added on at some point AFTER we signed the form without our knowledge or consent, and never once told us that was the reason for the change in charges until AFTER they finally sent the weight tags. Adding to an already signed form is complete fraud! We have proof they added information after we signed the forms from the copies they sent us after requesting and the forms we kept at the time of signing. This company NEVER calls back, despite promising to call back because they are 'looking into it'. They fraudulently charged us over $2,900 for packing and containers, which were never used. Some of the items listed we don't even have! They listed 6 boxes for lamps, we did not take any lamps. It lists wardrobe boxes, dish packs, etc and all those we packed ourselves.
So far the company is holding firm because they have our signature on a form which THEY ADDED INFO TO AFTER WE SIGNED as binding. We are pursuing all possible avenues to re-coup the $2900 they stole from us.
