Oh how I wish I had known of this website 6 months ago. Late summer 2012 we had several pool companies out to give quotes on re-plastering our pool and staining our cool deck. They all were in the same ballpark and we decided to wait. In December we received a letter from Danny Ward that offered an off season discount of about $1000 so we decided to have him do the work.
We went over everything he was to do and it was $3000. He required half payment at the start of work which we gave him (and he cashed the same day). The first day the pool was drained, cool deck was power washed - we felt good about it. Next day the mastic was removed and some patching done. It then got cold and rainy for a couple days so he didnt come out which was understandable. We tried for 2-3 days to get a hold of him and always had to leave a message. It took about 4 days before we heard back from him.
He then was back and did some patching in the pool and on the cool deck. Our pool had a LOT of voids (bubbles) and I think he had no idea how much work was involved. We went around and put blue masking tape on the spots we felt he overlooked or werent done correctly. The next time someone came out, which was a few days later, I saw him in the back yard and mentioned the blue tape - he said Danny was going to take care of it.
We then got a notice that we had a certified letter from Best Value at the post office. He said that he couldnt continue to work where someone was chipping away at the work he had done. Laughably, he said that his work was complete and we still owed him $2000! We have an empty pool with maybe 10 patches in it and patches all over the cool deck and it all looks like crap. And this was in a 3 week period. I hope he holds his breath waiting for our final payment.
Since we had to have something done we had 7 pool companies out - we only called ones who had an A+ BBB rating - and all of them said that the work Danny did completely worthless given the amount of cracks/voids in our pool. A couple had also heard of Danny and said he gave the whole industry a bad name.
We had a great concrete company stain our cool deck. Even though theres several colors on it you can still see the shoddy patch work Danny did. So our $3000 pool/cool deck job will end up costing us $6100, but at least it will be done right.
I guess we actually are lucky that he didnt finish considering some of the other reports and the nightmares of having to re-surface once again.
He is a likeable, good ole boy who seemed to know his stuff. His website (which is a .info - should have set off alarms to us then) says hes been in the pool business over 20 years. Which I guess means hes been scamming/ripping people off for that long.
We will look into legal recourse and would love to get his guy locked up so he cant continue to scam people. Its a shame he continues to change his company name and take money from good people.
