Update: Found the VP of Debt Free Mgmt., she is working at Nova Star Home Mortgage, 1751 Irvine Blvd., Suite 206, Tustin CA 92780. Direct phone number - 949-453-0006. Called the Irvine Police last night 4/5/04, officer took a lot of information from me but because Tustin is another county, I had to call Tustin County Police. They were absolutely no help. I now have to file a complaint with the police in my state and they have to forward it to Tustin County, 3000 miles away from me! By the time it gets there, Renee Everhart will be gone again, I'm sure!
In December of 2002, my husband and I had run it a series of bad luck and our bills were falling behind. We had heard about Debt Free Mangement Servies, (DFMS) and decided to "do the right thing" and consolidate our bills. We paid these people 471.00/month, we have a contract with them. After being shuffled around from many different consultants, not getting calls returned, etc. I started to worry.
I called and spoke with Renee Everhart, Executive Vice President of DFMS on December 8th regarding a court date that my husband had for Citi Bank. I explained how we had been trying since November to get in touch with someone BEFORE he had to go to court, and lucky for us, it snowed on the 12/8/03 and court was cancelled. She informed me that she has over 15,000 clients and it's impossible to call everyone all the time. She spoke with my husband and ensured him that when he goes to court, more than likely the judge will side with CitiBank, but all we would have to do is contact her after the hearing and she would settle the account with CitiBank's attorney.
On April 19th, my husband had his day in court, and everything happened just like Ms. Everhart said. We have been trying to get in touch with her ever since to let her know what happened, however, as of yeserday, April 27, 2004, DFMS' phone numbers have been disconnected. Their website, www.dfmsinc.com, is also down.
We have paid these people a total of $5,199.51 and I don't know if any of the accounts have been settled! What are we supposed to do? I spoke with another Debt Consolidation company tonight, just to see if they could give me any information and was told to go to www.bbb.org, which I did. They have had many complaints! Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau. An unsatisfactory record is given when a pattern in the company's customer complaints causes us concern, when the company does not respond to complaints, or when it will not substantiate its advertising claims.

Also, if you go to www.google.com and type 800-805-3367 in the google search bar many, many companies come up using different names, different locations...even one in the UK. Isn't this against the law? Please tell me what, if anything, we can do. We have three children and thought that our debt was almost settled... that was until yesterday. Our money is supposed to be at Commercial Capital Bank, 1 Venture, Irvine, CA 92618, Phone: 949-585-7500, however, when we call their, due to the PRIVACY ACT, they can't tell us if our money is still at the bank. Who does this privacy act actually protect?! Not us, the victims, that's for sure.
