We took a connecting flight from Newark NJ to Atlanta GA on February 2010 and with time to spare.  We flew into Atlanta GA to pick up our flight with Delta Airlines and once we got there all flights were grounded because of snow.  The 2 inches of snow arrived at 2 in the afternoon.  Our flight arrived in Atlanta GA at 8 in the morning.  Delta did nothing for us, didn't put us on another plane, didn't have answers, didn't put us up in a hotel, nothing.  Long story short, we rented a car to drive to Miami Florida to make a weak attempt to catch our ship (Royal Caribbean).  We didn't make it.  We drove from Atlanta GA to Miami Florida in a rental in record time however we missed the ship.  Royal Caribbean had received hundreds of calls from passengers like us that got screwed by Delta Airlines.  We booked another cruise with Royal over the phone anyway and dealt with both companies when we returned home. [continued below]....
.....  Royal Caribbean is fantastic.  Let's just say that they took care of us and we have no complaints on the other hand Delta refuses to do anything for us.  We gave Delta a fair request for our expenses and they denied us outright.  I am still writing and contact Noella M. Fernandes and advised her that I would be posting my complaint for all to see.  I wrote to the president, Ed Bastian and Raymond Taylor another overpaid Delta employee.  Delta refuses to take any responsibility for what happened.  Totally their fault.  I don't want to hear about cancellation insurance because according to Delta as they outlined in their email to us dated May 3, 2010 they have every right to cancel a flight for no reason.  Can you believe that?  I should have scanned that email and posted that too maybe I will!  On February 5, 2011 an article on MSNBC.com came out about airlines like Delta freaking out over 2 inches of snow and how they are going to now issue travel waivers, waive fees etc.   Continue fighting because corporations like these think that if they stall long enough we will give up.  They haven't met me yet.  I will continue to be outspoken about everything and anything and I can back up everything with documentation.  I challenge any rebuttal and you better know what you are talking about.  My freedom of speech is protected.  Some companies think that by a lawsuit threat they can quiet you...well not me.

Delta wasn't the problem.

AUTHOR: Brian - (United States of America)

Your complaint should be with the agency that controls the  Atlanta airport, they're the ones that closed the airport.  Delta doesn't control the airport.  Per FAA regulations, Delta was not required to provide you any lodging for a weather delay.  The only thing they were required to do was to put you on their first available flight to Miami after the airport reopened.

Weather related delays and cancellations..

AUTHOR: Lucky - (United States of America)

You, nor the airline(s), can predict what your travel weather will be. You are basically blaming Delta for your poor weather planning. Delta has no obligation to assist you for delays/cancellations due to weather.   Take this as a learning experience, and next trip, have an alternate plan for weather. I am truly sorry your trip was ruined, however, there was no one DIRECT contributing factor other than weather.

FYI

AUTHOR: Stacey - (U.S.A.)

When is snows here in the south things come to a halt most of the time.  It snowed in Dallas February and did so for 5 days - DFW was closed for most of the time and many business were shut down. Whart Delta did was common for SAFETY matters so get over it.
Delta has no control over what the weather does nor what the traffic controllers decide. Seems they did what was in the best interest of their passengers which is SAFETY once again.

Lower your stress level

AUTHOR: Ramjet - (U.S.A.)

years ago something like this happened to us, but it was fog in our case.  Anyway, we ended up missing the first day of our cruise and had to fly to another port to catch it.

However, we did not blame the airline for the fog.  What we did is change our procedures from that point on.  We always fly in a day early like the first rebuttal suggests.  It lowers our stress level and we have actually had some pleasant times on that additional day.

Additionally, we had purchased trip insurance and got reimbursed for most of our costs.

Consider it a leaning experience and modify the way you approach cruises.  It will a much more relaxed experience.

Umm....

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

Delta refuses to take any responsibility for what happened.  Totally their fault.

That is probably the funniest thing I have heard in a while.  The first part of your report says that ALL flights were grounded because of snow.  So answer me this Einstein when did Delta Airlines get the power to control the weather?

That is almost as funny as the person I heard complain that their flight from LA to New York got cancelled because of a blizzard in New York.  Their reason they were upset..it's not snowing in LA.

I guess with your vast knowlege of weather, planes you know that they were just being silly in grounding their planes.

Airlines are not responsible for Weather Delays.  They are under no obligation to provide you with a hotel.  Does it suck for you that your flight got cancelled because of snow..of course.  But they are not the ones responsible.  Also, exactly how would they get you on another flight if ALL flights were cancelled?

Leave a Day Early

AUTHOR: Karl - (U.S.A.)

Next time leave a day early for the cruise and spend a night in Miami. That is what experienced travellers always do. Airlines can cancel flights for any reason and you have allowed yourself no time in the event this happens.
