During the summer of 2007 I booked a flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico. I booked (9) first class tickets on the Delta.com site. The trip was for the Presidents week vacation (2008) when my children were off from school. From the end of November 2007 thru December 2007 I received no less than (4) phone calls from Delta asking to give up my seats. I re-arranged some schedules and was able to give up (3) seats. In consideration, they told me I would get a 3 vouchers worth $900.00 that can be used by anyone and I had a credit of the full value of the original tickets that had to be used witin (1) year (Approx. $2800.00).

Recently, I tried to book a trip to London for Memorial day weekend. I was told by Delta that I could not use the tickets from the February trip. I was informed by a supervisor that they NEVER change a name on a ticket. This is contrary to what I was told in December when I voluntarily gave up my seats. Now I have contacted AMEX (Delta Skymiles Card) and I have contacted NYS Consunmer protection. I am a loyal Delta Frequent flier and I cannot believe that I am be treated this way. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to handle this situation?

YOU Mand the Mistake Not Delta

AUTHOR: Karl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 10, 2009

YOU were the one who gave up three seats. What is this about landing in another country? You had tickets to San Juan didn't you? The big problem was that you did a favor to Delta which overbooked the flight. You should have arrived at the airport and let Delta put you on another flight thereby costing them big bucks due to Government requirements for involuntary bumping. I guarantee you that they would have gotten you to San Juan in that case. As for 'raping" you, get a life. It is only a lousy airline flight. Get over it. With the lack of customer service on virtually every airline you aren't alone.

ONLY SUGGESTION STAY CLEAR FROM DELTA

AUTHOR: Lost - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 08, 2009

Delta tells passengers what they need to say yet afterwards once passenger is no longer needed delta refuses to follow up with its promises.

Because delta ignores the half truths their tell passengers for so long things got dangerous. Delta lied to me in order to have me take another flight, because they over booked original flight, Delta changed not only my flight but the airport I was landing in. I refused because I had transportion that I trusted. Delta assured me I would be provided with safe transportion that will get me from the airport to my resort. This was not true, I landed in another country without a ride, not even delta employee at the other airport was aware I was arriving.

Read comment under search for DELTA AIRLINE posted 2/5/2009,

Because of their lies a "VIOLENT RAPE" TOOK PLACE which will stay with me the rest of my life. This has destroyed me, it has been more than two years and I still can not get rid of their smell. I have more back flashes than I have normal thoughts. I trusted delta to get me safe from point A to point B because that's what delta promised me, if delta would have told me all they doing is getting me to a strange airport in another country, I can assure you, I would have refuse to do them a favor and transfer flights because they over booked!

Names Aren't Changed on Tickets

AUTHOR: Karl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, June 27, 2008

Regardless of who purchases tickets the name on the individual ticket is what is important. The unused ticket can be used in a year (from the date you purchased the ticket -not from the date of the cancelled flight) but only by the person whose name appears on the ticket. I used to voluntarily give up my seat all the time for vouchers, free trips, etc. I normally quit doing this since the free tickets are virtually unusable due to capacity controls, blackout dates, few "free" seats on any flight, etc.

The vouchers can be a good deal if you are the one whose name appears on the ticket and you get a deal like" $300 voucher and we will confirm you on the next flight". With virtually full flights the confirmation - i.e. specific seats assigned -rarely happens and you may end up spending the night at an airport unless you are going somewhere that the airline serves on virtually an hourly basis. NEVER accept the " You are confirmed and a seat will be assigned at the gate" unless you are a habitual gambler. You are essentially a standby passenger.

Bottom line is that customer service on virtually all the domestic airlines except Southwest and Hawaiian has hit rock bottom and giving up your seat benefits the airline -not you - since if they involuntarily kick you off the flight there are Govenment required penalties that they must pay if they can't get you to your destination within a set number of hours. If I have specific seats assigned and confirmation on a flight I don't give up my seat. I would have kept my San Juan tickets and let them call someone else.
