I am writing this report on behalf of my fiancee, who works at the Dennys I have indicated. Ever since she has worked there it has been one thing after another.
First off, the general manager's name there is Brad. I don't know his last name but you'd know him because he has crossed-eyes. He has treated her very badly the duration she has been employed there. He has made many sexist remarks to her, including, "Grow some balls".
She started as a server and was promoted to assistant manager several months ago. When first promoted she worked no less than 60 hrs a week, even though all she is paid for is what the 40 hr managers make. We are now getting ready to have our first child, and she is 6 months pregnant. A few months into the pregnancy, her OB GYN wrote up a slip saying she is to not work more than a 40 hr week. For the next couple months they complied with the doctor's orders.
About a month &1/2 ago, however, she had an unfortunate accident and broke 2 toes when she stubbed it on a chair. She was on crutches, and they said she had to be out of work for 3 weeks. So not only was she in pain from being pregnant but now this!
When she went back to work, they tried scheduling her back to 50+ hrs a week! Apparently Brad had been saying that since she was off, the first doctor's note was void?! So we had to go and get yet another doctor's note, which she blatantly taped to the office door so he saw it.
Then, some "shmuck" who is higher up than Brad, came in one night and started telling my fiancee things like, "Why haven't they cut your pay yet for working 40 hrs" and "We're gonna cut your pay". She's only making what the 40hr managers make in the first place! This guy was obviously just picking on her and trying to get her to quit. She also got wrote up because she was sitting down in the office after working hard all night, when this man walked in. She wasn't doing anything wrong, just not doing the "slave-labor" that they expect a pregnant woman to do.
Now Brad keeps bugging my fiancee and saying "when ya gonna quit? when ya gonna quit?" He is trying to "force" her to quit so he can bring in another manager who will work 60 hrs a week.
After the recent hurricanes here, this restaurant is a dump. There is mold growing all over and at least 3 leaks in the roof, along with families of roaches living in back. It is an unhealthy work environment and also an unhealthly place to eat. I fear for my fiancee's and baby's health and well-being.
Also, during the hurricane Brad changed her schedule in the middle of the week. Making her work the day the hurricane was going to hit! Denny's was the ONLY place open at this time and she was forced to either work or loose her job. We couldn't evacuate because of this. Then the day after the hurricane hit, she had to work overnight even though cerfews where in place.
I really just wanted to "vent" and let people know how unfair this particular restaurant treats their employees. She won't be working there much longer thank God. I would like to see her get paid for all the overtime she worked before she was pregnant, so if there are any lawyers out there let me know if we have a case.
