Corporate Advocacy Program™
Everything noted in the Rip Off Report # 454555 in their submission dated 5/22/09 echoed our horror story; except our job was much more expensive and harder to repair. I will recant the story below - but before I do, know that I have a list of "many" other Diamond Pool victims that are or have had varying degrees of the same problems. One current family from Wilton is unable to allow their children to play in their back yard because of the way the job was managed (pool upside down and an open hole in the back yard for over a year). John leaves a list of casualties at every job!
The unfortunate thing is that I, and almost all the other victims had spoken to San Juan Pools before and after their experience with John and they continue to list him as an authorized installer. I just got off the phone with them and they said he is an independent contractor and that they do not speak to the quality of his work or his history - which is not what they told me when I called them before I started my job - they said he was an "award winning installer" - my guess is they hung up the phone and laughed that he wins the award for the most dissatisfied customers.
So - my warning to you - John will over charge you, sell you more than you need, take much longer than he estimates (not due to weather), will do a shoddy job, most likely will be fired by you before he finishes the job, and then you will be left with an uncompleted war zone in your back yard and John will have been paid for most of the unfinished job. Call (((REDACTED))) in Connecticut and ask them what they think of John, call (((REDACTED))) Decks and ask them what they think of John, call (((REDACTED))) and ask them what they think of John - call any "material" vendor or supplier John uses - and do some of your own homework! Interview some of his former employees -
In very brief form - John told us that our job would take two weeks to complete - the job began in August and extended into the following summer when we ultimately fired him (of course weeks at a time would go by and he would not show up). His equipment sat in our yard and on our driveway during this entire time (ruining our driveway which was in great shape before he started - Repair cost $1,200). The ends of our drainage pipes still remain buried (cost to fix unknown), at the time we fired him the project was 93% over his original budget (not caused by changes to the work estimates and not caused by ledge having to be removed); his equipment charges was based on run time (metered hours) - we would come home to find equipment running and just sitting there (fraud cost unknown), his invoices would have the hour meter readings - start and stop clock, the stop on one bill did not equal the start on other bills (and the equipment never left our yard - cost of fraud, unknown), electrical conduit was installed by John which I later learned is not legal for him to do (and it was not supervised by an electrician); a retaining wall extended onto my neighbors property had to be move ($5,000 to repair), the filter area installation guidelines called for a concrete pad - John put everything on gravel; cost to repair ($1,200), equipment John installed was not appropriate for our system (cost to replace $700). Trust me - the list goes on. Oh yeah, and he pays his guys under the table $8 per hour, he charges you $50 per hour - and they do not have workers comp insurance coverage.
There are so many other vendors out there - don't use this one; he is bad news. As you read his rebuttals - ask yourself why people like me took the time to write something like this - don't walk away, run!

As for our pool, we enjoy it every season. If a situation arises where we need some immediate help, John is right over. One time, we had a bunch of kids coming over for a birthday party for our daughter and our pump failed. John was right over with a portable pump so that the party could go on.
Thanks Diamond Pool for always doing an outstanding job!

Diamond Pools - you decide

Look, what can I say - there are a lot of pool installers out there; some good ones and some bad ones; and some of the good ones mess up once in a while. With as much conflicting press on Diamond Pools / JD Construction / John Dubyoski on this web site as well as on the internet - why would you want to take a risk in using him. His mess ups are more than "once in a while" - don't let your job become another notch on this site. I guess the best way to end this message is to say caveat emptor (Latin for "let the buyer beware") - if you use him - don't let any facet of your job be charged by the hour, watch out for change orders and pay close attention to what is and what is not included in your job - for example, if you were going to have lighting installed - make sure the quote includes digging the trench, the PVC piping and all electrical work - if you were going to have pavers installed - make sure that the price includes what you expect the end results to be - a level deck regardless of the starting land contours.
Good Luck -

We had a San Juan pool installed in 2005 by Diamond Pools (John Dubyoski) and have enjoyed every season since. Looking back in the planning process, everything from layout to selecting pool patio, pavers, walks, etc. was professionally explained and thoroughly executed within our budget.
Installation and excavation can be unnerving as in any new construction project. Unforeseeable factors, weather, ledge, rock, equipment can all hamper the process. With patience and trust, the end result is a beautiful pool and patio as promised.
Over the first five years John has always been there for any questions or help we may come up with. A great service relationship has been established and maintained way after the point of sale.
We enjoy working with Diamond Pools and would highly recommend John and his team. Great product, great installation great service equals GREAT ENJOYMENT AND INVEST

Diamond Pools / John Dubyoski ... my experience
AUTHOR: Daniel - (United States of America)

John was available and helpful during the choice and design phase, and accommodated some changes we made during the installation gracefully. He presented us with a range of options and useful information on the pros and cons of particular choices. The installation did take somewhat longer than we had anticipated but this was mostly weather and condition related.
The outcome of the project was very successful and John has been reliable regarding
any routine maintenance needs - winterizing, etc. The billing we received was very specific and easy to review with him. We never had any issues regarding Diamond Pool's accounting or billing practices, and John went out of his way to get us some promotional extras and supplied some of the equipment/gear at his cost.
I have no business relationship with Diamond Pools or John Dubyoski other than being a client and anyone who wishes to confirm the legitimacy of this response should feel free to contact me through this website.

Remember everyone - John / Diamond Pools can write their own reviews acting as clients - if you choose to ignore all the press on this site - ask for a CURRENT reference - he won't be able to provide you any "real" ones. If he can - go to see the pool, don't just speak to them on the phone.
The ones he just posted are from 2003 -
There are too many other GREAT pool companies out there - don't mess with this one.

The Real Story
AUTHOR: Diamond Pools - (United States of America)

As far as taking longer than we estimate, when we get to various
jobs customers add things on to the job and make changes which takes the job
longer to complete. We do not leave any job in the middle of completion; we
work at one job at a time. We do not destroy driveways or bury any piping. We
always lay pile wood on driveways to prevent any damage if using machines on
the driveway. We never leave equipment running for any reason it is extremely
dangerous. Whenever equipment is running it is because we are using the
equipment to complete the job, they never sit. The equipment does not leave the
job until the equipment is no longer needed. It is very costly to move
machinery back and forth as well as time consuming. If you look at our bills
the end time for the last invoice is the new start time for the next time that
we use the machine. We have a machine log that records all the hours that we
attach to each invoice for machine time that both Diamond Pools and the
homeowner signs off on agreeing to the hours.
We never build material on anyone elses property. We use a
property plan to make sure we are well within the property lines. Each town has different requirements
for how close a pool, patio, and wall can be to town lines. We have inspectors
out at various stages of the job to approve the work we do.
We do not pay any people under the table nor do we pay as
little as $8 an hour for our workers.
This
consumer has made up many false accusations about our company, it sounds to me
like this consumer needs to do there homework, and have accurate factual
information. For people that read this, the consumer that wrote this hired one
of our former employees to finish the job and now have a lot of problems with
their pool as a result. The employee they hired was not licensed, created
excess work and bills for the homeowner.
