We offered it to our neighbors and some friends for $1. They couldn't afford the maintenance fees. See a pattern?
I contacted Diamond Resorts and told them I would like to sell back the timeshare for $1. I was informed by a nice lady they didn't do that. I can't use the timeshare, I can't "give it away" yet I'm supposed to maintain the property with fees that go up whenever they buy new properties -- and do this the rest of my life!!! The nice lady said yes or they would sue me (it was put very nicely and apologetically).
The only way for me to use my timeshare again is to go to places I've already been, and my husband and I have a "policy" never to go the same place twice because of all the wonderful places the U.S. has to offer, and Diamond Resorts does not have locations in all of the rest of these places (some might, but condition of timeshares are not acceptable).
For the cost of just the maintenance fee, I can rent a whole house for a week in most places throughout the world. The places I've checked out in Europe (popular destinations) have wonderful rent houses, but no Diamond resort can be found anywhere in a very broad area.
So, I'm to pay for services I'm not getting for the rest of my life or do something I don't want to do. There is something terribly wrong with this.
I had a timeshare with another company and they bought it back for $10. Their maintenance fees were half of what I'm paying for Diamond.
I'm in if there is an investigation, lawsuit, whatever against Diamond. Their business policy stinks. They have spread themselves too thin and are trying to recover through their members.
I want out and will pursue this until I get released. If they treat me like this (excellent credit rating), what will they do next. If this trend continues, I can see Diamond's reputation going down the drain.

Sympathize, they lied to us too.

The first person I talked with when I called to complain and get an explanation said they had the right to charge more points if availability was high at the resort. The second person (a supervisor) said no that was incorrect, it was always half the points in the last 60 days before the reservation, but that our reservation was in a "Peak" period. It is the week after Thanksgiving, hardly a peak period. I asked about selling the deed back as we were still losing points at year end and was told that had never been the policy and that last year they discontinued allowing the customer to "surrender" the deed. Because I mentioned the lies we were told and asked for a supervisor, she offered to transfer our points forward as an exception. How can they legally do this? They are full of lies and as they continue to sell to more people, availability becomes harder and harder to get except in Orlando or other less than desirable resorts. Is there no attorney out there wanting to take them on for these mistruths and deceptions? The fees go up and up, availability goes down as they oversell and there is no way out as promised.
