Dillard's
Stones River Pkwy - Stones River Mall Murfreesboro, Tennessee U.S.A.

Dillard's - Stones River Mall Dillard's is THE most poor company to work for....they lie to you, illegally violate federal laws by stating you do not receive breaks/lunch-dinner time for hours worked. They tell you it's a "privelege" to work for Dillards. Ha Ha! Obviously the corporate HR Dept is in complete denial as they do not notice the severe turnover at the M'boro store. Tracy Graves, the Mgr, is a complete loser Murfreesboro Tennessee

It is a well known fact Dillard's is a tremendously poor company to be employed with. They lie to you, tell you it's a "privelege to work there." At the Murfreesboro, TN store, they inform every female hired they WILL be working in cosmetics. Once the person starts to work, they are THEN informed "oh by the way...we have a policy that you must work your way into the cosmetics department by meeting sales quotas." Complete liars!
They actually employee very young managers who are not given basic training on HR guidelines and employment law. They frequently inform employees they are NOT to receive fifteen minute breaks or lunch/dinner breaks. That's a FEDERAL LAW!! If you work six hours, yes...you are legally REQUIRED to receive a thirty minute lunch/dinner break! Is Dillard's REALLY that ignorant? I think not, they are just that arrogant, and the store Manager, Tracy Graves, allows this and MUCH, MUCH more to go on. The Federal Labor Board will crawl up your arrogant retail rear end and sprout wings!! I wouldn't put it past them to next come out with "you are to receive NO PAY since it's SUCH a privelege to work here."
Obviously their corporate HR Department refuses to note the continual turnover/firings that take place on a CONSTANT basis at the Murfreesboro, TN location. Gee, has anyone in upper management ever been educated on "employee retention"? Obviously NOT! Employees are approached by Security and Management in front of customers and accussed of stealing...no proof offered. No reprimands taken, just accusations. Oh yeah...it's SUCH a privelege to work at Dillards! Tracy Graves and his team of highly incompetent managers are so extremely poor at doing their jobs, it's amazing the store actually manages to function. The only reason the doors are open...that building is paid for! And what "higher up" in their right mind would choose NOT to connect to the adjacent mall for goodness sakes? What "higher up" would put ONE bathroom in the entire two level store? You have to go upstairs to the complete opposite end of the store in order to relieve yourself. Quite inconvenient to customers. And they very much notice that. That's why, Mr/Ms. "Higher Ups", they pack the mall and shop there...instead of coming in your store! Consumers take their business and money to the updated Avenue shops instead of your well known poorly run retail store. Shame on ALL of you for allowing such to continue. Mr. Graves...you need to be sent packing. Your own fellow corporate managers cannot even stand you. The Dillards family obviously does not care to protect the Dillards name nor the business the family created. Ever heard of chapter 13? It's happening a lot these days and THE quickest way to ensure you get to that point....continue with poor management and poor HR practices, complaints by customers, lies to the very employees who make money for you. Poor moral = poor working environment and employees who DO NOT care one way or another if your business fails or not. Keep up the great work, Dillards. You should be in deep decline...soon!

The grass is not always greener...

AUTHOR: Janedoe7 - (U.S.A.)

True: You are not hired into the cosmetics department but must earn your place there. Why would they put a sales associate in such a position if you are not a proven salesperson?

False: You are not given federally regulated breaks. It is Dillard's policy to give you a 30 min break for every 6 hours you work as per federal law and generally you are given an hour. Tenn has no federal law that requires you to get a 15 minute break.

True: One bathroom on the second floor. That happened due to the mall cutting cost because they ended up paying for the store to be built or Dillard's was threatening to move to the Avenues. I'd say Bill Dillard got off pretty good on that deal. And by the way, the Avenues are not connected by a mall either so that argument fails. The store is not "paid for" as Dillard's is only leasing the building and I believe may own the land though I am not possitive about that.

As for Management and Security approaching you for theft...what are you doing that would make them think you are stealing? They will not approach theives unless they have proof that they are stealing.

Blame management for your failure. They have numbers to meet as well and if retail is not for you, then get out of the business. If you want to be a cashier then go to Walmart at minimum wage. If your a good salesperson, Dillard's has a much higher pay scale then industry standard. They just expect you to earn your pay.
