I had Direct TV for a year and a half, disconnected the service because I got married and moved in with my husband. I was told it was a 12 month contract when I signed up. That contract was fulfilled, and yet was told I had to pay $120 for a disconnect fee because it was a 24 month contract. I called several times to argue the bill. Finally I checked my bank account and Direct TV took out $120 without my permission, when i called them they said it was in the contract that was given to me stating that if any money was owed they could and would take out the money!! BE CAREFUL when gettin direct tv, they are very crooked, you can not even get a hold of anyone from corporate other than an email in which they will get back with you in 72 hours which their customer service rep stated was pretty fast!! WTH!

You DID agree to this when you signed up. You also agreed that they could use whatever payment method you used to recover any fees/charges. You STILL haven't read it have you? Read it before you make a further fool out of yourself.
No, I don't work for them or even have their service, but have read their contract and Dish Networks, they have very similar terms in them. Do NOT sign something you haven't read. The contract governs over verbal promises EVERY time. That's why it's called a contract. If you didn't return their equipment, you'll soon be in for another unpleasant surprise.
