Recenlty I switched from Dish Network to Direct TV mainly for the HD programming. This decision was based on what I saw on their web site. My goal was to lower my bill and gain HD programming.

On DTV's website I saw that I could get their Family Package for $29.99/month and HD Access for an additional $9.99. To see what HD channels I would get for $9.99 I clicked on their HD Channels and then HD Access. There I found a list of nine HD channels. With this information I placed my order and two days later the installer installed the system (with HD receiver). At first the technician could not get the HD channels programmed. He then contacted Direct TV and 30 minutes later got the HD channels programmed and all was good!

After a short time, 30 minutes or so, the HD channels were no longer available. Thinking the receiver was at fault he replaced the reciever but still no HD channels. Then he contacted again DTV and this person told us that you cannot have HD channels (except local HD channels) with the Family package. They continued to say it is not possible because in order to get these channels in HD you must also have the stanard channel in your package.

For example to get ESPN HD you must have ESPN standard in your package. The technican informed this person that we already had the HD channels for a short while then the were gone so what she said was not true.

The bottom line is no where on their website does it say that HD Access programming is not available on the Family package. The technician and I both pointed out this fact to the person at DTV. All she could say was that according to her computer HD channels were not available with Family package.

I was very upset with the fact that she did not care what was being advertised on their website! I dropped Dish Network (which I was very happy with) after six years for what I thought was a much better deal.

Currently DTV is reviewing my case and will let me know in 14 days. The fact I have to wait so long is also extremly frustrating! Meanwhile I am paying for HD programming I cannot recieve! My hope is they will honor what is being adverstised on their website.
