When I signed up for cable, I first took a lot of time calling different companies and comparing prices. I found DirectTV offered the most for the least cost. When signing up over the phone I explained to the gentleman I wanted to know exactly what my monthly charges would be. I was quoted somewhere around $50 a month with the discounts and credits. I asked several times if that included everything...no other taxes or surcharges, etc, I wanted to know exactly what I was paying. I was assurred that is exactly what it would be. Then I get my first bill and it was almost $20 month. When I called to find out why I was told my extra DVRs were indeed free, but it was $4 per DVR to use them, and since we used them, that's what the charge was for. So you mean people get the free DVRs and don't use them?? Then my bill stayed around the same for about 2 or 3 months and slowly started creeping up until it's now about $100 a month about 10 months after signing up. I have called twice in the last couple months (each time it's gone up again after my calling and each time I'm told they can't call me back, I have to sit on the phone while they look and use up my minutes on my cell plan) and still have no explanation. When I asked what I have to do to cancel my service I was told I had to pay a $300 cancellation fee. So, I"m locked into a contract with a bill that has gone up 33% in 10 months even though I was locked into a rate and they can charge me to break the agreement, but nothing I can do. I was told it went up because my credits expired after 12 months (it's only been 10 months now). I was also told my rates go up if their rates go up, but nobody could tell me what went up. So I asked them to compare my bill from the first few months and the last few months and it was acknowledged that yes my rates went up almost $25 a month, but no they don't know why. All they will do is read my the numbers off my bill. I can do math. I can read. I want to know how to they get off increasing my rates when I was told my rate would stay the same as long as I was in the contract, and when I challenge it increasing they tell me I can cancel if I pay $300. It is the worst customer service I have ever received and not just by one person, but by multiple people. I even spoke with a supervisor and she was calm, but she still couldn't answer my question. Her response was to calmly say, "I'm sorry we haven't been able to answer your question" and that was it. That was my resolution - acknowledgement of no resolution.
