Individuals are calling place of business claiming to be with DCSI (No Such Company can be found)Say that they are collecting on behalf of Dept. Of Education on a student loan. Trying to get SS# and DOB to clear up issue, When refused individuals became very rude.

After researching company and student loan, have found that their is no such company and the Dept Of Education has no records of me. This is a scam to gain personal imformation, seems very credible a first tell you about the Highger Education Act of 1965 and how your current wages can be garnessed up to 10% for payment.

Still continues to harse at work don't fall for it I didn't

#1 Consumer Suggestion

This company is rude and obnoxious

AUTHOR: music girl - (United States of America)

I recieved a letter from DCS stating that I had 30 days to reply for a debt owed to the Virginia Taxation Board, regarding a supposed state tax I owed. I called the number on the letter and got an extremely rude unhelpful lady saying that even though I was unaware there was even an on going investigation that collection was going to move forward, IN 2 DAYS!! Even though the letter stated I had 30 days to respond (which I recieved on the 30th and was dated the 18!)

She than told me that they were going to garnish my wages and anything asssociated in my name! However I could send them income tax information and even though I was disputing the claim they were going to move forward. Before sending ANY personal information I went on-line to research the company. I saw a post similar to mine and followed the instructions. I contacted the state of Virginia and was treated kindly and courteously, and once I told them I had not recieved notice of the initial audit because I had moved to California was told that they would put a hold on the collection IMMEDIATELY! I HAD filed a state tax with Maryland and DO NOT owe Virginia anything. It just needed to be cleared up.

I was than told by the Virginia representative to not even bother contacting the collection agency that she would take care of it. Despite being told by the DCS employee that it did not matter if I contacted the State of Virginia that they were collecting anyway! DCS does not care if they are collecting a real debt or not, they just want to harass and bully you into paying them and THAN determine if the debt is real.

DO NOT be afraid of this company, once you show that you either dispute or are working to resolve your debt they can't do anything. JERKS! If they call me back I will be just as rude and inconsiderate as they were to me.

#4 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Ex employee wants to set things straight

AUTHOR: Peggi - (U.S.A.)

DCS Incorporated (not DCSI as stated above) is a legitimate collection agency for the Dept. of Education (DoE). I am a previous employee and while I don't agree with some collector's methods, I do believe in the very valuable service they are providing American taxpayers. Did you know that defaulted student loans account for a huge portion of American debt? It's a staggering amount of debt, and we "the taxpayers" carry the burden.

If you want some proof that DCS is legitimate, the DoE lists their contracted agencies here: ed.gov/offices/OSFAP/DCS/collection.agencies.html and DCS also has its own website: dcswins.com/.

If you are adamant that you are being contacted in error regarding a defaulted student loan, I strongly urge you to contact the DoE directly. You are not required to work with a collection agency, but be warned that unless you contact the DoE and straighten it out, it doesn't matter how many times you tell a collector that it's not you - the DoE requires proof. This is our government's doing folks - not the agency's!!

Do not try to fool the DoE by lying and saying it's not you or that you can't pay. They send information to the IRS to seize your tax returns, and the information you file on your taxes is also shared with the DoE. Plain and simple - if you owe the debt, pay it. There are programs to rehabilitate or consolidate your loans, and you ARE eligible for reasonable monthly payments regardless of what you have been told. If a collector argues that you HAVE to pay a "down payment" or make a settlement on the account, DO NOT take their word. All defaulted student loans are offered the same terms!!!!
