First off i would like to say that i enjoy working at dominos pizza and that the enviroment i work in is great, the people are awesome and pretty much its a good time,

But this isnt only about me, its about all the other delivery drivers that work in my 5 store area.. and the complete greed and untrustworthy people at the top.. Mike Villereal (the owner) Jeff villereal (co owner) and Thurman Etchison (the Gm's manager)

First of all, at this moment the delivery charge at our store is 1.25 (taxed as well) ILLEGALLY thats the besides the point, but its 1.25, the delivery rate that we drivers get is a meager .70 cents per run.. which is horrible considering that gas prices are at 2.79 right now for regular.. now ever since this dominos instituted the 1.25 delivery charge, many of the drivers have came to me and said they have experienced a drop in there tips due to the fact that we are directed to inform the customer that there is a delivery charge included in the total, which is fine and fair we have to tell them, what isnt fine and fair is that the villereals are profiting off there delivery charge thus profiting and stealing from there employees.. every run we drivers take for them we are pretty much donating .55 cents to them, if i take twenty runs during a day, thats 11.00 dollars a day on average, later drivers then me that can take up to 45 runs a night are really the ones buying them the new yukon denali's and jeeps... they keep saying that they are going to raise our rate up to .90 cents, but still i feel like im still donating money i feel like i deserve to them, we as drivers already are doing them the service of delivering there product promptly and on time, and also being the true face of the company on every run, first impressions make all the difference and if a customer does have a complaint we are usually the first person there to deal with it and usually we are able to solve their problems.. we deserve better in the champaign urbana delivery area, and i truly believe that unless we drivers do something profound like just walking out or striking nothing will ever be accomplished, i believe that we are entitled to 1.25 per run, due to the fact its called a DELIVERY CHARGE!!!!!!

In close, Hopefully someone reads this from my area and understands what we delivery drivers go through here in champaign/urbana Illinois... I am just touching on some of the problems that could be easily resolved here, and if anyone would like to here anymore just write your response here ill check up on it.. thanks

Class Action filed against a different pizza co.

AUTHOR: Alan - (U.S.A.)

There was a class action lawsuit that was filed against different pizza delivery company for allegedly not paying drivers proper mileage. If I were you, I'd contact the law firm that did that case to see if you have a case against Dominos.

Bottom Line ... AND ... Tell you what

AUTHOR: Cryptic - (U.S.A.)

Bottom Line ... AND ... Tell you what

My response to the above posts...

No matter how you put your attempts to diffuse this issue we can see right through it. You are trying to justify shady practices towards the employee. We are sick and tired of employers pulling this typical shady activity on us PERIOD! ESPECIALLY FOR A LOUSY MINIMUM WAGE JOB! NO REPUTIBLE employer ever asks that their employee take the cost of deliveries PERIOD. That cost ALWAYS rides on the employer no matter what and it is up to the employer to charge enough to cover their cost. The employees who say nothing about this are simply waiting for that better job offer to come so they quit getting this type of treatment. They may be in dire straights financially even for that actual BELOW minimum wage they get to help their families until they find an employer who does the right thing.

If it cost to much for the pizza pie place to deliver and you can not afford it then come in and pick it up, or cook your own pizza. Simple yes, the drivers then can work in the store making and boxing pizzas plus they help out with customer service. But you others who try and justify this shady garbage should be ashamed! At least if they work in the store making pizzas they know they are not getting shady deals and MUST get at least minimum wage. Or will they...

I should also mention while after a few weeks of working and seeing how I was shorted on mileage pay I also was IN FACT SHORTED BY DOMINOS IN MY HOURS WORKED! Yep, I was and so were many other employees at that same store and the same year who were shorted in hours. When we walked in the door the manager on duty would say...

Go ahead and start work and I will clock you in at the correct time.

...we were clocked in sometimes well over 30 minutes late. This was not a once in the while accident as it happend over and over and over not just to myself but a large number of the other employees. Week after week after week. Continueing month after month. Closing was the same. We were told we could not punch out on the computer because he or she had to do the book work. They claimed that they would punch us out at the correct time on the computer. One of the other girls had been shorted out of thousands in pay of several months. One of the mangers bragged how he always had the best labor costs of all of the managers. He also bragged he had a secret method of doing this. I believe it is obvious who did most of the shorting and skimming of employees actual hours in the computer since he was the one asking us to start work without punching in. If you argued about it you would get screamed at in front of all of the other employees and possibly repremmended.

I went to the state and they said simply wait until you are no longer working there to file a complaint. This was because once you filed a complaint with the state you would probably be fired for one reason or another if you were still an employee. I filed my complaint and they finally gave me my moneys. Again typical stuff. Simular to Arbies several years ago back in the late 70's and early 80's. They used the old stile construction paper type time cards and punch clock. At that time the manger actually would mark out the ink punch with a pen and write an earlier time by hand on the time card. I called him on it more than once and boy did he get mad at me. Many of us reported them to the state and we finally got our moneys. We should NEVER EVER have to go through this rediculous cheesy and shady nonsense ESPECIALLY for a lousy minimum wage. THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED of themselves!

Owe, everybody, I told you all there would be cronies coming out of the wood works to try anything in a feable attempt to devert the facts! Obvious aren't they. I think their last names are clear.

BTW go to youtube.com and type in...

disgusting dominos pizza

...that is three words and a single space between each word. As sick and discusting as these employees actions were Dominos got exactly what they paid for IMO. Most anywhere I have worked they lower the pay and higher the shady deals on employees the greater the percentage of this type of activity. THey got younger employees who did not care one bit. One of the people in these videos who was hired is in fact a KNOWN SEX OFFENDER and this person was allowed to deliver pizza in homes with children in the house. That act in itself is enough to place the owner and management in legal jeapordy in most all states. SEX OFFENDERS are NOT allowed to be anywhere near children on a job in most states that I know of.

Go to youtube.com and type in...

TYPICAL TYPICAL TYPICAL. Save a buck by this activity and risk our health and well being. Then send out your cheesy cronies to these forums in a feable attempt to diffuse your pathetic actions all for a few pennies. Well these two peoples actions will show the rest of the country exactly what types of things happen in these places. Justice partially served maybe? I wonder how namy other criminals work at pizza pie places deliving to our children? I have a very young son and I do NOT want a known sex offender delivying to my house. I certainly DO NOT want a Dominos employee who is a known sex offender deliverying pizza to any of the gradeschool children at my son's school. GO ahead cronies, conyinue your pathetic justification. You got what you paid for by the shady activities you have participated in saving a few pennies didn't you?

Ranting on and on, ABSOLUTELY ESPECIALLY WHEN DOMINOS allows a known sex offender anywhere near children! I will rant on until you know exactly what freezes over!

AUTHOR: Ashley - (U.S.A.)

As a consumer, the second pizza drivers get 50 cents a mile, which WILL be added to my bill, is the SAME second I NEVER EVER order a pizza to be delivered again.

Nearest pizza place is about 3 miles, so I would need to pay the driver 3$ plus tip plus pizza cost?

Screw that. I'll go drive and get my own pizza.

If the pizza business adopted your model, the delivery driver would not exist anymore. The market would not bear those costs.

Remember the company doesnt pay this extra cost, the consumer does. No one will pay that for a pizza.

What a ripoff

Bottom Line - These Are Unreimbursed Business Expenses....

AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)

and these are not a rip off. Many of the business you worked for Cryptic have employees who incur unreimbursed costs - because anybody who transports anything in this world will not pay the full fuel cost of transporting items. That leaves the driver, whether as an owner operator, or an employee of the company with unreimbursed costs. The EE can deduct those costs as long as the cost exceeds 2% of AGI (consult your local tax guy for your own personal situation). What you want is the full cost passed down to the end user, which is the ultimate end of this game. That would result in a higher product cost and ultimately the loss of the business.

You're absolutely right - this is a choice borne by the driver and they don't understand what they get themselves into because they don't have the brainpower to figure it out. It only makes the driver stupid; it doesn't make this a rip of one way or the other....

Low pay is at least one reason they got employees like this...

I have noticed at least in my life thus far that the lower the company paychecks are the higher the concentration of people who would do stuff like this. Some of the stuff people do seems to be even worse. Low pay usually gets young employees who do not know any better or simply do not care. Interesting while the Dominos pizza taste OK the videos I watched have left a bad taste on my mouth.

Lets discuss it ... Everyone has to pay

AUTHOR: Cryptic - (U.S.A.)

Your statement...

Everyone has to pay
I am wondering if you have every had any other job then delivery driver.

Cryptic new statement...

Actually yes. I have been employed by some of the largest corporations in the world clear down to very small tech companies. My pizza delivery was while in college and yes Dominos did shady dealings with me and many of the other employees. We were told by the state it would be best to find something else and then file our complaints with the state. If we filed while employed obviously we would get fired on the spot for some reason or another. That is why I quit on them in only a short time working there. I still support the delivery people verbally in these types of forums because I know how these companies operate. VERY SADLY IMHO!

Your statement...

Everyone has to pay
'Once again you are stating that if you get 5.85 and hour and make 2 dollars tips you earn $7.85. THIS IS FALSE!!! FIRST that extra 2 bucks in tips does NOT include workers comp. unemployment, social security, or any other itmes that would have to be deducted from the total amount.'

The rest of the world that works pays the same deductions you do.

Cryptic new statement...

You are wrong here. The employer pays all of the all of the unemployent, all of the workers comp, and about half of the s.s. For us to get the benefit of the 2 dollars in tips within those benefits we would have to pay extra out of that 2 dollars. This is factual. So why are you debunking that issue? Just curious as I know I am correct about it. Of course we pay income taxes, part of the s.s., and a cost for the med.. Maybe I should of been a bit more specific in my origional statement and apologize if I was not specific enough to suit your readings. It did appear that you debunked my underlying meaning of that part of that 2 bucks does need to go into those other costs out of our pocket which is normally out of the employers pocket. While not a forced or a needed item to be paid for to get the full benefits it must be paid to your local state and federal agency. The total amout paid for the s.s. I believe was about 15% where the deduction out of your check is normally about 7% roughly. There would be an additional 8% paid out of your pocket that is normally paid by your employer so to get that extra little bit when you retire it would come out of your pocket. Not everybody gets the same retirement since it is partially based on total earnings through your life.

Your statement...

I am in no way disagreeing with you that you are underpaid, just use good factual debate information not excuses.

Waitresses at restaurant make LESS than minimum wage and rely on tips. Not everyone in the world tips so some waitresses make less than min. wage.

Cryptic new statement...

I understand that about the waitress thing except that the waitress is required to show up for work on time by what ever means. He or she does NOT need their own car to perform their jobs. The pizza delivery person does. That is the point entirely of this thread. Is it no wonder why so many adds for delivery folks are in the papers over and over and over and over and over. I have sometimes seen those adds running non stop for weeks even months off and on which is during their highest turnover periods.

If they simply paid 50 cents per mile, minimum wage, and tips no body would complain. I bet some would stick around more than a month or two or whenever they finally get that better job. The only ones complaining these days are the managers in a rediculous attempt trying to diffuse this type of discussion in forums like this one.

Not trying to start a screaming match here but I want to make clear my points. I did graduate with nearly all straight A's and a few B's including A's in several accounting courses. Driving costs are a simple calculation for the drivers. A lot of the time prior to being hired the management has a habit of making the statement...

These are all of the moneys you can earn in a night. This is definetly a misleading statement. They leave out the cost of the automobile in that initial discussion that the driving is out of your pocket and those moneys paid in a night for driving may only cover half or even a third of what it actually driving costs. As a note, I just called Dominos here I was told recently it is only 50 cents per delivery. Think about it. If your run is only a short one of 4 miles round trip that 50 cents does not even come close to the real costs. When I delivered here I easily could run over 10 miles round trip and many times it would be over 4 miles round trip.

I saw that other post about the 55 cents and sure why not pay that much espcially for those using the 4x4 in the winter on snow and ice. That condition really tears up the vehicles badly. That of course is a tax deduction and NOT a credit. It only means that you donot pay taxes and that amount of 55 cents per mile driven. The maintenance, fuel, wear and tear still come right out of your pocket. I actually had a telephone delivery person try and convince me that ALL of my moneys were tax free and therfore mine to keep. Like it was a great favor to me right. hahahah. He wanted to pay GRAND TOTAL for deliverying phone books 65 dollars for driving about 125 miles. Taht would take about 8 hours on average to delivery about 700 books. You do the math. That was it. He claimed just like the pizza delivery places that the 65 dollars was ALL earnings. He left out the entire facts that the automobile expenses come out of the 65 dollars.

To be honest as far as the other person argueing about the 50 cents as though it is to high, absolutely that amount minimum should be paid ESPECIALLY with the high fuel and repair cost NOT to mention the Commercial Auto Insurance you should have for the job but that the pizza delivery places always fail to discuss.

A note here to others, be warned. There are many many company cronies that will post anything in a feable attempt to diffuse this discussion. They are extremely obvious and will sometimes appear very light even partially sympathetic and others will appear very hard core in written words. Most of us can see right through them as they are sooooo transparent their last name should be clear.

How about 55 Cents per mile.

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

If you have unreimbursed expenses for the use of your vehicle during the course of employment you MAY be able to claim a deduction on your taxes. If you can the IRS allows $0.55/mile for 2009.

To even have the possibility of doing this you need to keep an accurate record. This would be as simple as a "mileage log", where you would put in your the Date, Start time and mileage and End Time and mileage. At the end of the year you add up the miles and take the $0.55/mile(minus the reibursement per delivery they did provide) as a deduction.

This is not to be taken as legal or financial advise as every one's situation is different, but something you may want to look into.

Possibly In Your Town... Gotta disagree on one point

AUTHOR: Cryptic - (U.S.A.)

Here if they actually own their own cabs then they are the company in this city. In other words if you work for the cab company you are in fact provided with the vehicle in this city. A few of the people transport services here are so small that they are maybe 2 or 4 vehicles and all owned by one person who may have the family only driving them to complete the job. If you are hired to drive then you use their vehicle not your own. I could not say in your town. The same goes for construction, jets, fedex, ups, usps, construction, lawncare. They all require you have a vehicle to show at work but the job itself is done by there vehicles.

The only bad ones in this city are the local newspaper who has to use cheesy low dollar bonus checks just to get you to show up for interviewing for taking a paper route that requires use your own vehicle. The local pizza pie rip offs do the same thing. Once again you are stating that if you get 5.85 and hour and make 2 dollars tips you earn $7.85. THIS IS FALSE!!!

FIRST that extra 2 bucks in tips does NOT include workers comp. unemployment, social security, or any other itmes that would have to be deducted from the total amount.

SECOND that extra 2 bucks in tips ends up being part of the ACTUAL TRUE MILEAGE because you are NOT even given half the REAL COST! In most cases you only earn about one third of TRUE COST. I already explained this in detail so please read it again. You can juggle the numbers any way you like as the fact remains...

50 cents per mile period. Anything less is a rip off period.

You have expensive repairs on the engine, transmission, rear end, transaxel, tires, breaks, and rotors. This does not include standard maintenance of oil changes, new tires, light bulbs, hinges, wiper blades, wiper motors, starters motors, water pumps, radiator, and on and on and on PLUS the outrage in high dollar gasoline. Lets also mention you were probably required to and you did sign a contract with your insurance comapny to accept the fact that if your vehicle is NOT being used for commercial purposes you need COMMERCIAL AUTO INSURANCE if it is being used for business. I would bet that your insurance comapny may not know you are using your vehicle to delivery pizza pies. hmmmmm, uhh huh. We know.

The cheesy excuse of using a used lower price vehicle only means it is allready worn out to a degree depending on age and miles and it very well could and will require these high dollar repairs much sooner and more frequently. The continued cheesy excuse that you can work on you own vehicle means that you really could be working for somebody else earning moneys in that time so it actually comes out of your time and pocket again.

Read my above post again and you will find I am speaking of my city. Even the city a few miles south of here in Ft.Collins is about the same as this one.

And actually in some states they ARE UNDER a LEGAL obligation to pay the ACTUAL MILEAGE not that rip off garbage of 50 cents per delivery which could easily go near 10 miles round trip. Think about it. Even a 4 miles round trip and you get 50 cents for what is actually closer to a 2 dollar cost out of your pocket. Yes many states still allow this rip to continue.

Bottom line, why do they not use their vehicles??? Because there is someone who will buy into that crock they present before you start about all of the money you earn in a night is your pay. IT IS NOT ALL YOUR PAY. Your tips and the UNDERPAYMENT of real mileage barely pays the REAL mileage expense. If they pay under minimum wage in this city this is bad IMHO PERIOD.

Simply put, pay the 50 cents per mile and minimum wage and you will have no complaints from anybody. Continue to do what you do now and any of us who have been done like this will continue to warn those who do not catch on right away.

Be sure to watch out for the pizza pie CRONIES out there who continue to distort the facts in feable attempt to justify this rip folks. I can only type so long so it will require others to keep up with their typical right wing business man rhetoric that is soooo transparent their last name should clear. We can see rioght through it.

Gotta disagree on one point

AUTHOR: Ashley - (U.S.A.)

Cab drivers often own their vehicles, and drive them for the company they work for. Also construction workers routinely use their own vehicles for work. I work in a quality control lab, and I use my own vehicle to deliver for this company. I am reimbursed very little for using my own vehicle. My company carries insurance on me to drive it. You might double check and make sure your company does not carry insurance on you.

When I worked the mail room at a grocery store, I was expected to use my own vehicle to pick up and deliver mail. I got no compensation for that.

Its really simple, they are under no legal obligation to even PAY you any sort of money for the delivery outside an hourly wage. The fact that you get something is awesome.

If yuo don't like how much the delivery gig pays, then find a different job.

Yes drivers may make 5.85$, but if you can deliver 2 pizzas in an hour with 1$ tips (even counting that delivery fee) you just made 7.85$ an hour.

Why don't you complain about school teachers buying their own supplies? Or waitresses buying their own uniforms and supplies? At my work I have to buy lab coats and office supplies. There is a cost to the employee for any job you work. You just have to decide how much is too much.

Maybe The Dominos Needs To Fall Over

AUTHOR: Cryptic - (U.S.A.)

Look, I have been through many of these. It is the same old story over and over. THEY KNOW FOR A FACT how expensive it is to use your own car, THEY KNOW FOR FACT how lousy the tips are, THEY KNOW FOR FACT exactly what they are doing.

You are required to have COMMERCIAL AUTO INSURANCE to drive that car on the job but your pizza place will not tell you that at all. They expect standard liability at best. I really wonder how many insurance companies know that some of their clients are driving 100 to 200 miles a night on deliveries for these pizza places and only paying liability insurance on a family car. If you do get in an accident on the job and it is your fault the insurance company could have all new rights including NOT paying for the accident at all. Those pizza places know this fact. They only want their pizza delivered for next to nothing.

Another item is many have only addressed the gasoline you pay for. It is also the fact that your car will require very very expensive repairs including engine, transmission, breaks, rear end, transaxels, and even the simple door hinges, wiper blades, light bulbs, not to mention the plastic tail light covers and windshields that could get broken on the job from the average gravel tossed up at your vehicles. Does Dominos pay for your repairs. NO they only give you 50 cents per delivery in this town and that is it period!

Here you get LESS THAN MINIMUM WAGE about $5.85 per hour which is justified by tips you might get, 50 cents per delivery, and of course the maybe tips. The tips are LOUSY at best in this area. Maybe a buck or so but I have seen many cutomers stand and wait for change. I have seen a 5 dollar tip once in while but those are chemically induced folks so wasted they hand you a few bills and say keep the change. Those are rare. The economy is bad which also makes the tips even worse these days.

In reality they should pay you at a minimum of 50 cents per mile PERIOD. This would cover your fuel, wear and tear on the vehicle, CONSTANT maintenance on your vehicle, and the COMMERCIAL AUTO INSURANCE that I can almost guarentee your current insurance probably does not know that your vehicle is being used for business. I wonder, how much would the auto insurance companies pay me to sit outside of all my local pizza companies with a digital camera pointed at both the driver and the plate numbers on the car? While I would never do that sort of thing you clearly see how easily you could get caught as this bad economy would prompt anybody to take advantage of an opportunity to make a few bucks.

I based my area out by the measly tips, the cheesy pennies given for each delivery and these two items total together just about pay for expense of driving that car. All you are left with in reality is your hourly rate which here is LESS THAN the national minimum wage average. About $5.85 per hour total at all of the big three in this town.

Interesting thing, FedEx, UPS, USPS, all use their own vehicles. The employee does not use his or her own vehicle for these jobs. All of the cab companies here have their own cars for the drivers in this town. All of the hotels have their own vehicles for driving the people around town to and from the hotel. All of the airlines have their own jets so the pilots do not bring there own jets to work. All of the local construction companies here use their own vehicles, both heavey equipment down to the 4 man remodeling company and a couple of pickups. All of the plumbing shops have their own vehicles for the employees here to use which includes the van filled with supplies and smaller trucks to transport the crew if many are needed. All of the small landscaping companies have their own trucks for the employee to drive. Even the tiny little lawn care companies have their own little trucks and lawnmowers for the employees to use. I find it hard to see any companies that require you to use your own vehicle in this town.

IN FACT, the only campanies that I have seen so far in this city that require you to use your own vehicle are the newspapers, pizza pie places, a local sub shop, and the short time telephone book deliveries. Interesting each and every one of these use your own vehicles almost always have huge constant complaints about shorting the employees out of dekivery cost money, VERY HIGH TURN OVER EVERY MONTH ALL YEAR as I see them all advertising help wanted in the local paper at least once a month for a week solid and sometimes several times each week during the month. There could be a few other companies but I have not seen any other in this city.

Be carefull of the typical company crony around these days who try in fgeable attempt to diffuse the facts with typical mangement rhetoric. Hey cronies, we can see right through you all. You are so transparent your last name should be clear. You actually should all be ashamed of yourselves justifying the short changing of the drivers who have a very high risk jobs out there for their health and well being when it comes to crime against them.

About the only way to beat them is for nobody to deliver for them anymore, convince customers not to order pizzas anymore, and call them up over and over and over expressing your opinions about how you are mad about their business practices relative to the drivers. Is it possible? It seems today the words in business are ANYTHING GOES. Typical and Sad Sad Sad.

WE THE PEOPLE ARE SICK AND TIRED OF BEING RIPPED OFF!!!

I used to be an area supervisor

AUTHOR: Brenpierce25 - (U.S.A.)

I just wanted to mention that a typical Dominos Pizza location makes very little money. Most of my stores had a breakeven point of $7000. That means that if the store makes $7000 in a week the the owner didn't make a single penny. If the store manages to run good labor and food cost %'s then the owner makes about 5% profit. So if a store runs good numbers and does $10,000 in a week the the owner made $150.00 for that week. If the store owner has 1 store and he manages that store then he can make at least $500.00 per week if he hits his breakeven point.

As for the delivery charge Dominos Pizza corporate policy is that the delivery charge is counted as sales and is therefore charged Royalties and Advertising Fees which account for 11% to 13% depending on the market your in. so your $1.25 just became $1.11 or $1.08.

Dominos corporate made this policy so we could not use coupons for $1.99 large 1 toppings with a $8.00 delivery charge which would allow the owners to cheat corporate out of a lot of the royalties they get each week.

Delivery Charge fair!!!

AUTHOR: Jace - (U.S.A.)

Several of you think that the company keeping part or most of the delivery charge is unfair. I have a business degree and can tell you exactly why they do this. The employer has alot of overhead they have to pay involving delivery of anything food related. They have to pay additional insurance or c.y.a. insurance. Whether or not the driver has insurance, the company still has some risk involved there. The Dominos I work for is fair, of the 2.00 I get at least .70 cents just to leave the store. Then an additional .30, .50., .90, 1.25, or 1.30 depending on what time and what area we go to... I drove 86 miles the other night, got 22.10 in gas allowance. I drive a 4x4 to deliver and still made 2.20 cents on the gas... So when you think it is all bad, think of this. If the Pizza joint does away with the delivery charge, YOU WONT HAVE A CUSH JOB ANYMORE!!!

Delivery drivers unite- mike from urbania read this

AUTHOR: Duane - (U.S.A.)

hey thanks for the support more drama has been going on in the northeast ohio dominos. I have, along with about 50-60 other drivers in similar situations, have designed a month long protest.this protest is a mild but effective one. we have produced a letter that will be distributed to new and repeat customers informing them of where there " delivery charge money" goes. that in fact no driver in our store recieves a red-cent of the delivery charge. so to correct aafes the manager of a dominos or manager wannabe- we have a $1.50 delivery charge with 0% gratuity to the driver. we are a low income suburb of cleveland ohio and the scam is just another way for "jerry" to pay for his nose candy.

anyways that retort was for aafes who probably has not delivered a pizza in his life. if he did i doubt he would be debating the validity of these statements.
back to real business... the letter will inform them that every time they ask for a delivery they have just given $1.50 away for no reason and with our gas being $3 a gallon and the normal delivery driver, aafes, does not drive a brand new maintenence free hybrid they drve whatever gets them back and forth to work . you have to figure in monthly oil changes depending on delivery area and frequent use, gas, minor things like engine coolant, tires, and the even smaller manufactural problems that occur once your odometer hits that "magic number"

the protest will take place july 1st-31st i encourage you to rally with co-workers and do the same . WE MAY NOT HAVE A UNION BUT WE STILL HAVE A VOICE. or vox for the europeans ayy aafes!!!

Mr Wong reads the Ripoff Report all the time to see if customers have wised up to his shenanigans. ..I got canned

AUTHOR: R - (U.S.A.)

Mr Wong read my report and fired me immediately. I forgot that he reads the Ripoff Report all the time to see if customers have wised up to his shenanigans.

He waters down his Hot & Sour soup to save money. If you complain, he'll remake your soup, but it will be his "Hot, sour and sticky soup".

And the meats he uses are not from easily recognizable animal species. He also "reuses" a lot of food that is left on the tables by his dine-in patrons.

The only job I've ever had is delivering chinese food. Since Mr Wong is related to 98% of the owners of the other chinese restaurants in Portland, it's highly unlikely I'll ever work again.

an idea

AUTHOR: R - (U.S.A.)

Aafes, there's other costs to operating a vehicle besides gasoline. These costs include maintenance and wear and tear, like tires etc.

Even the IRS allows 48.5 cents per mile, so I suppose you could write the balance off at tax time, but it's doubtful a minimum wage pizza delivery driver could do a schedule A.

I deliver chinese food for Long Dong Wongs here in Portland. The owner, Mr Wong only gives me 10 cents a mile plus some of his crappy peking dumplings and greasy scallion pancakes.

What I've been doing though is making up the mileage, Last night I told him I drove 6000 miles. He paid me the $600, but I think he's suspicious because he followed me around Portland all day today in disguise. I only put in for 2800 miles today though. That should throw him off.

WHOSE DEAD BODY DID THEY CRAWL OVER TO DELIVER A PIZZA???

AUTHOR: C - (U.S.A.)

This is a bit off the subject but shows just how little employers/owners of those pizza places care about their drivers. I was a pizza delivery driver for Domino's in Cullman, AL for several years.

During the late 90's while making a delivery I was involved in a "hit & run" accident.
I was in the left turning lane waiting for oncoming traffic when a young punk drunk rearended my Toyoto Tercel. The driver fled the scene after hitting me going approx. 90mph.

Luckily there were several witnesses.
I was knocked unconscious & had to be cut out from my car. While emergency workers were attempting to revive me a witness called Domino's so they could reach my family.

Instead the owner "Robby Walker" sent another driver to pick up the pizza I was attempting to deliver & finish w/ the delivery. After my family was notified (BTW by another witness...not Domino's) & I was taken by ambulance to the local ER. While my wife, 2 teenage children & other family members were waiting in the lobby the Domino's manager called the hospital's ER waiting room to speak w/ my wife.

NOT to find out how I was but to ask her to stick her hand in my pants pocket to retrive the $20.00 till money. They were sending ANOTHER driver to pick it up. I was strapped to a board because they thought my back was broken & my wife went off on the manager.

Luckily my wife did not do as requested because as it turned out I had not used their money for a till that night & had used my own or I am sure the store certainly wouldn't have given MY money back to me.

Police were searching for the hit & run driver/car since the witnesses gave a detailed description. The Domino's owner shocked us when he offered to post a $500.00 reward to anyone helping to locate/arrest this punk. However he never followed through w/ his promise. He was just running off at the jaws.

As it turned out my car was totalled, I was out of work for about 6 months. Some fellow employees even suggested the owner give me the $500.00 to help me w/ expenses during this difficult time. Of course he didn't do that either.

Luckily, I had recently retired from the US Army & had my retirement check to help w/ rental car, medicines, hospital & doctor bills, etc. from this ordeal. As well as our regular bills/expenses. We were scraping the bottom of the barrel but somehow managed.

When I was finally released to go back to work the owner offered me 2 hours a day making deliveries (or 10 hour weeks). In other works kiss my..., we don't want you. I quit.

Even the law system didn't work for me as the driver was ordered to pay me $7,000.00 for my expenses but the D.A. suggested I lower it to 1/2 the amount & the punk would be more apt to pay it.
What a dummy I was. He was supposed to pay the $3,500.00 in $200.00 a month installments to the court system who would then forward it to me.
To this date (approx. 9 years later) I have received $49.00 TOTAL. I have tried numerous times to make the courts hold him to his agreement but even they won't help.

I had just purchased the car a few weeks before the hit & run so w/ it being totalled of course I had lost my trade-in & had to pay the difference in loan & blue book. So I guess you could say I got screwed all the way around.

The point is owners of those pizza delivery places (or any other such places) DO NOT CARE what happens to their drivers. There is always some other driver willing to work & support their family.
THIS IS A TRUE STORY!!!!!

So the next time you order a pizza delivered to you remember you never know whose dead (or near dead) body they crawled over to delivery it to you. THEY ARE GREEDY!!!!

To "outraged in Ohio"

AUTHOR: Aafes - (U.S.A.)

Okay, lets see. Did you say $0.28 a mile? So, by driving 10 miles you get a gallon of gasoline. Is the problem really that your car only gets 10 miles to the gallon? Most Domino's stores have a limited delivery area. If you are actually doing, lets say, 150 miles driving a night, you are getting at least a full tank of gasoline. Are you really doing this job on a car that does not get 150 miles on a full tank? Sounds like a poor choice to me.

You get at least minimum wage and some tips on top of the mileage fee. Many, many people in America work only for minimum wage, no tips etc. Seems like you are doing better than them.

Additionally, if there are "poker and coke" parties going on where you work, and you don't want to "be a snitch", consider this. You are in the store to do your next pickup - DEA or local police bust in the door and find illegal gambling and cocaine openly displayed. Do you think you will walk away unscathed. At the very least you look at arrest, processing, posting bail and likely legal bills.

You know, im sick and tired of this dominos pizza communist regime, what you wrote really pissed me off, .28 cents a mile?? thats a JOKE, and i bet they are implementing the same 1.25 Delivery charge haha, so you go out two miles make .56 cents and they make a .69 cent profit, that is just incredibly unfair and they should be FORCED to pay You and Me and every other driver for this JOKE of a company every single red penny that we DESERVE with interest.

At my store they just raised the prices of the side sauces, Garlic butter, marinara, Jalapeno cheese, hot sauce, rance and blue cheese, to .90 cents a cup.. Their reason to count for the loss of profit for having to pay the drivers more for the rise of gas prices... this is so retarded, not only are they screwin the drivers over agian by raising the price on the customers and thus making a TIP even harder to get, THEIR SCREWIN THE CUSTOMERS THAT give them everything they got.. Horrible business

I totally agree with you that we all need to unite together and tell these people we mean business and let them know that WE control more than 95% of thier money as drivers. ah man my blood is boiling..

About your Paychecks THEY CANNOT FORCE YOU TO DO THAT, THATS YOUR MONEY.. YOU DEFINATLY EARNED IT!!!! CASH IT WHEREVER YOU WANT.. Thats my idea, I WISH this dominos would tell me what to do with my money i dont think they would like me very much........

About managers, My manager is a very good person, i wont bring their name up, but they are really screwin them over on their bonuses as well with the sales and all that,

Does dominos not know that ever since last year when the philly steak was a HUGE SUCCESS, (which was invented by a driver and im sure all he/she got was 5 grand, Not 100% sure on this just what i heard) that it is going to be really hard to raise sales on last year??? with what the 555 deal??? LOL thats a joke too.. These people at the top are really ignorant to the real world, they just see the deposits going into the bank everyday and thats it...

DRAMA-nos Pizza Strikes again!!!!!

AUTHOR: Duane - (U.S.A.)

I agree with everything that has been stated. In the past 4 years i have worked at dominos the only good thing that came out of it was when the day was over. I left for a while after some situations when myemployment became a playground instead of a business. Recreational coke and poker parties( and I'm not talking about the cola beverage we sell either) anyways I am not a snitch i just want to let all the del drivers that i feel ya and have been for a while. the money used to be what kept me working through the constant bull**** but since they instituted this new delivery charge policy I haven't even been covering the fueling and refeuling each day.

My current owner has alot of issues mainly running 2 shops. i rather not give locations because the people inside the corporate circle of friends" were all ex franchisee owners and inspectors who all know each other, so to save myself a headache i will just say northeast ohio. at my current store anytime of night you can have sex, smoke, snort, everything but sell pizzas. I am suprised that the stores have operated this long while bieng in constant default. somethin about free lunches for inspectors???? anywho, about the delivery charge why is it called that? can drivers sue for falsification? probably not.

I make just barely $6 an hour or mileage rate is .28 per mile. i read in illinois you guys are gettin .70 if you only knew how lucky you were. not defending those con artists you call owners but the majority of drivers at my store are trying to support their families and pay bills. its not fair when I watch my owner take money out of the till for store snacks,"recreational use" and to "stay" money for his wife to be happy, and expensive dinners along with his paycheck. and I struggle everyday to make sure enough gas is in the car for the next bull**** day.and then after watching him do it numerous times and have it recorded on the surveillance tape, has the nerve to get mad at drivers for clocking themselves out at the end of the night. or store has some pretty grounded guys, the owner, just like your shop, is lucky to have people like us that report to work everyday through the bull**** scheduling, down talking, and constant talk of sexual desires and wishes. not my idea of a great place to work. answer this question do you or any dominos around have an unwritten rule where all paychecks must be cashed at the store or by a driver, because the store cant keep money in the bank??? serioulsy please answer.

i am just as fed up and i am willing to organize, join, or support a delivery drivers union. we, as well as our vehicles work too hard so one person can get rich and if something happens to us or our cars we are replaced the next week. well humorously enough I am writting a movie about my intresting experiences at this shop if anyone has any intresting facts about there store they want to add i will include and cite you in the credits. thanks
