I am filing a complaint about the Downtown Centre 7 Cinema in San Luis Obispo
for many reasons.

This movie theater is runned by a bunch of Cal Poly or Cuesta College students. Their service is terrible as what you pay for isn't what you get. Movie tickets continue to increase and nothing gets updated at this place.

I noticed many times ticket staff reading or studying textbooks in the ticket booths, ignoring people waiting in line. They are slow, they really take their time when you pay for a movie ticket. Discounts are nothing, if your a child or serior, really a no big breaks on discounts so small but more than what student get for discounts example.

The theater is dirty and the seats are horrible. You walk in, you see plenty of people leaving their feets on the chair where the ushers do nothing to ask them to put their feet down. They don't even bother to come in and inspect the audience at all. Forget it if you have a noise complaint or tell them to do something when their is a complaint in the theater. People come in, sit in front of you, you have to move to another seat where no one is in front of you because the theater is flat, all of them are. When people leave their feet on the chairs in your roll, you can feel it like someone is kicking the chairs, even from the oposite side. It sucks and the seats are sticky with coke and candy. Also the theater screens have spots on them and on top of that, the audio or stereo quality is aweful.

I mean really, they raise their prices all the time and they can't update anything or make changes to make customers happy.

On top of that, they ignored my complaint, they never responded to my letter and if they did, I would post it to show their response.

Listen, I know the movie business is a rip off and theaters are losing money from these so called greedy actors asking too much to work 2 months or so and walking away with $5, $10, $15 million and more and on top of that making the royalities on the film for years to come. I know it sucks that theaters have to pay big bucks and rent these expensive films. I agree, everyone is getting ripped off everywhere.

I am making a rip off complaint though to explain that here is a theater that is doing nothing about it. I remember in 2004, they stopped a movie on a Jim Carey film asking for donations but ask Jim Carey, he makes $20 million per film but asking people who have an average low salary living or even students to donate? I don't disgree with donating money, I disgree who they are asking. Do you think it is right to ask someone who makes $7.50 an hr versing an $20 million dollar actor? There are some many actors in the big screen films that are making $40 million a year or less or more but seeing a movie is not cheap anymore. Less people are going since inflation started in 2003 and now in 2007, people are complaining about going to the movies. People are not getting what they pay for but the actors, producers, the directors and so one are walking away rich.

However just let me make this simple rip off report to example on how some movie theaters are just ignoring the problems and doing nothing about it.

If Downtown Centre 7 Cinema San Luis Obispo changes, great I will recommend them and send a letter of recommendation to them if they do but when the years they started back in 1994 till now, they have done nothing to improve and people, this theater does make money. They have full shows and I know if there was a choice people would go somewhere else but San Luis Obispo is limited for movie theaters, where have 3 in this town and one International film theater called the Palm theater wish I love this place.

Anyway if you are thinking about go to the Downtown Centre 7 Cinema San Luis Obispo, think twice and go to another theater where it is cheaper with better service.

There bathrooms are dirty as well and to think how many staff they have running the place, the place is not getting special attention for quality

Getting better, going back to the Theaters in SLO

AUTHOR: J - (U.S.A.)

Changing my review on this review. Since I began this report I have been uspet the way the Movie Experience has been doing business. While I am not 100% with their theaters I have began going to their theaters again even though the price is high, I am sorted regretting my report about them.

Yes, they do not do a good job managing their theaters such as talking, people texting, feet on chairs, staff reading college book at the tickets booths, gum on screens and etc. While not perfect I am sure many other theaters have the same problem.

So with that said I am giving them a C rating for being in business under tough times. I will do busines with them again as I have been.

I just hope they will continue to slighty improve if they will continue to try to make their customers happy.

downtown centre 7 cinema San Luis Obispo movie theater, total ripoff. Place sucks, outdated and total mismanaged

AUTHOR: J - (U.S.A.)

This place is a full ripoff, if you walk in the place after paying $9.50 after 2am matinee times, you'll understand this place is indeed 110% a ripoff. It is indeed
outdated and never maintained properly. The seats are squeaky; lot of students put their feet on the chairs being totally disrespectful to the other viewers when the seats sit so low, you can see nothing but heads and big hats in front of you. The audio is also terribly outdated as well, you can hear the how old they are if they have an action movie playing. Really for $9.50 for a matinee ticket, they certainly are in the negative here.

It is also true the place is run by misinformed college students and also the manager, another mismanaged college student, who doesn't even know how to run the place or make orders to respond to complaints to see customers are happy. They think just to raise the price, again and again and again where parking is terrible and you have to pay for parking to see a movie unless you want to walk several blocks away to get free parking.

They also do not have ushers, forget about asking them to ask people to quit talking, they avoid complaints on every level.

Food just like all of them, all high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup and trans fats foods for a ripoff. Everything they sell too, is all noisy wrap candies.

If you can, rent a movie or go online go look on torrents and see the movie for free online. With how bad the economy is, this movie theater is not in anyway understanding for how people are surviving to entertain on a cheap budget. To me, they deserve an F letter grade.

Get a life/clue

AUTHOR: Reprise - (U.S.A.)

It's a movie theater. No duh that its employees are students from Cuesta/Cal Poly. Who else in their right minds would work for minimum wage??? Kind of a stupid notion to expect fully grown and mature adults. It's a small college town with thousands of kids that need jobs, and guess what, working at a theater isn't rocket science. So that's where they go, that's who goes for minimum wage jobs, not MBAs.... smart one.

It's a movie theater in a small town, which also compared to all other theaters in the area is cheaper (within the county). No I'm not counting the Palm, as it's a completely different set of movies.

I'm not going to note my relation to the company or any employees, but sorry, they may have sold out shows, but that place is making no money. Hence the current lack of service they have now, they are starting to skimp on employees. Any person with a clue knows that movie theaters don't keep ticket money, the ticket sales kind of go to you know...the movie companies that made the movies!!! That's why snacks are so highly priced...that's where a theater makes its money and pays for its employees, kind of a no brainer if you just look at it. , not to mention the snack bar staff will actually recommend to customers to go hit up 7-11 for candy and drinks as its cheaper. And Downtown Centre actually allows consumers to bring in their own snacks, unlike a lot of theaters out there. Their only restrictions are hot coffee and booze. sounds sensible to me.

Lighten up a little bit man, the General Manager of the place wasn't even a business major, she may be failing miserably, but she's trying. the corporate people won't shell out the bucks to pay for a real manager.
Their corporate offices are what are the biggest joke, as you said your letter went un-answered. They won't even acknowledge letters or complaints from their own employees. So.... yeah.... let's put the blame on them.

If you want a joke of a theater, try the fremont. the GM there is a complete stoner joke. Not to mention a total sleazeball.

I've never noticed downtown centre's bathrooms to be dirty, always pretty clean unless some jackass didn't flush the toilet.
