My name is Jenny. My carpets needed a cleaning, therefore I decided to look online for a carpet cleaning company for my 3 bedroom 1,300sf house. I found a company by the name of "Dr. Steemer," which advertises itself as "$19 a room carpet cleaning". I called in and asked for an estimate over the phone, the guy told me $60 for the whole house. I agreed, and scheduled them for the next day to come and clean my carpets.

But the day they were suppose to come, I got a call from the hospital that one of my friends was involved in an accident, I rushed over to the hospital and I left my 16 year old son a check to give the guy. I signed the check, put the date on it, put "Dr. Steemer" in the "To:" field, and even wrote a note on the memo. I left the $ amount blank, in order so my son can determine a tip amount, in case the guy does an excellent job.

I called the Dr. Steemer guys and told them that I am on the way to the hospital, and that my son would take care of the payment.

I told my son its gonna be around $60.00, and to give the guys a 15% tip if they do a good job, and to call me if there are any problems.

I arrived home from the hospital 6 hours later. When i walked in and saw the house, i agreed i would have given the guys a B- or C+ job, not everything was cleaned. I recall saying to myself in my mind "I am going to be pissed at my son if he gave these guys a tip." A moment later my son came in, and what he told me almost made me faint!

He told me the carpet cleaning guys told him to make the check out for the amount of $300.00 so i told him "WHAT DO YOU MEAN $300, I TOLD YOU $60??!!!!" and my son's reply was "The guys told me I had misheard you, and to make out the check for $300." So I told my son "WHY DIDN'T YOU CALL ME" and he said "I told the guys that i needed to call you and he told me that he just spoke to you and you were busy and you told him you would call me in an hour." Which was a total lie! I never told the guys not to let my son call me.

I immediately called my bank and found out the minute the guys walked out of my house they ran straight to the bank and cashed the check.

I called in Dr. Steemer, and every time I would be put on hold or the line would "mysteriously" get disconnected.

I called a lawyer and he said there is nothing i can do about it, since the guy NEVER provided me a $60 estimate in writing.

....Firstly, It's not legal to take a check from a minor person (the 16 yrs old boy), and even more if this person give a check without his name on it.

Secondly, an employee cannot put the money in the account, if you made the payment in order to the company name, and even though he did this, you saw the transaction the same day the technician cashed the check, so it s still pending and you can just make a stop payment on this check, and there will be not even a cents taken out from your account. I'm really surprised both your bank and your lawyer didn t give you all those informations.

Finally, i called this company to see what they had to say, i asked for a carpet cleaning and the guy didn t even want to give me any price until he actually take a look on my carpet before they will be able to give me a real price.
So i asked them what was the $60 price ans the guy said it was a special for a carpet cleaning, but it was just a regular cleaning. If i had heavy stains on my carpet, then it will be probably more than $60.

As for the second report, you re not talking about Dr. Steemer at all. They don't advertise $59 for duct cleaning, you can go check on their website if you want to. Secondly, all their estimates are free from a simple chair cleaning to a huge water damage restoration, and this From Jupiter to Homestead so it s impossible they told you  you had to pay them because they came from far away.... And last but not least, it s really weird that you called 2 strangers mold companies before calling your own friend....

So much mistakes in two completely different reports when we all know the economy situation is bad now and that companies will do their best in order to ruin other companies and get the monopoly.....

I CALLED THIS COMPANY TO CLEAN MY AIR DUCTS AND THEY TOLD ME "59$ AIR DUCT CLEANING" OVER THE PHONE. WHEN THEY CAME, THEY CLIMBED ON THE LADDER TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE AIR DUCT, THEN THEY STARTED LYING TO ME THAT THEY FOUND MOLD, AND I SHOULD PAY THEM $1,500.00 TO CLEAN IT. I TOLD THEM I WANTED TO GET A SECOND OPINION, AND THEY STARTED PANICKING AND TRYING TO PRESSURING ME THAT I SHOULD PAY THEM "NOW" BECAUSE THEY CAME FROM FAR AWAY. AT THE END I TOLD THEM TO LEAVE! SINCE THEN I HAD 3 MOLD COMPANIES COME OVER MY HOUSE, INCLUDING A FAMILY FRIEND WHO IS IN THE MOLD REPAIR BUSINESS, AND SO FAR THEY NEVER FOUND ANY MOLD.
