DriveTime is definitely ripping off consumers. They do buy the cars at fleet auctions of rental cars & restrict their costs paid to no more than $6000.00 per car. Then the price is doubled, they add any costs of repairs (mostly cosmetic, just to get the car running off the lot) and then charge interest rates of 17% to 30%. The $6000.00 car will end up costing the customer $20,000.00 or more!

They know most people are not able to maintain the $200.00 to $300.00 bi-weekly payments but if they can sucker you in by getting a large downpayment(to lower the interest rate a miniscule amount)or get the title to your trade-in car, they only have to get a few payments from the consumer to pay for the price of the cheap car drivetime bought at auction. Anything above that is pure profit for the overpaid incompetent executives.

This company is screaming toward bankruptcy or just folding up and disappearing, leaving any customers with worthless cars and no legal recourse. Every consumer needs to call the ATTORNEY GENERAL CONSUMER PROTECTION offices in your state. The number is listed in your phone book. It is easy & thay want to hear about thieves like this. Their job is to make businesses like this keep their promises or pay dearly if they don't. Drivetimes business practives are abusive and violate trade practices.

I think I know who he is. Bryan at the St. John's store. I bought a car from him at DT. It's been 5 months and shit is hitting the fan. But they screwed the wrong gal. Paint that they used to cover up bad paint areas is coming OFF showing me the real issues. Have had the car in the repair shop 4 times in 5 months. Sad sad sad. The battle is just beginning though. I am definitely a squeaky wheel and they will HATE me when it's all over.

I am a former employee of Drivetime so I really do know the inside information. The main reason I quit was because of the dirty way DT did its business and the way the customers were treated after they had signed the contract. It made me sick. The mark-up is certainly normal business but with DT, it is simple doubling the price paid at auction. $6,000 is the buyers limit at auction-if they can get the piece of junk for less-all the better. As far as bankruptcy, have you ever heard of Enron? The only ones who got out of that disaster with anything were the owners-just like Drivetime. If you are happy wth your choice, so be it. But doesn't it hurt when you see the ads for a brand new truck with payments for less than 1/2 what you are paying for a 3 or 4 year old truck with 80,000+ miles on it? Good luck to you. You will need it.

drive time auto

it sounds like you are just angry because your car got repo'ed. i have a good job and make good money but i have massived debt to hopitals and related agencies due to the fact that i get pancreatitus every few years and have to spend at least a week in the hospital to treat it. it has happened about ten times and the latest bill was about 23 thousand dollars. i had insurance just the last two times. i also have a big debt to ford motor credit because i got trapped in a lease that caused a 7000 dollar bill to them. recentlymy company truck was taken from me as a result of a change in policy. so i had to find something and quick. i went to carmax and when they ran my credit they told me that i qualified for a car thatwould have to be
a)less than 12,000 dollars
b)less than 30,000 miles
c had to be a four door
d had to be an automatic

i was like... right!
i am in construction and i need a truck, so i check a dozen "no credit" car lots all i found were junkers and newer models with excessively high mileage,
i stopped at drive time and the same dayn walked out with a killer v8 dodge dakota quad cab at just slightly higher than blue book. it had 50,000 miles and was in perfect condition all around. i am thrilled it is my favorite vehicle so far and i am glad drivetime is around.

if you were to look at the rate drivetime has been expanding in the last few years you would see that apparently they have found a customer base. i thought it funny that you point to them marking up the cars so much as a bad thing, why didn't you go to a fleet auction and buy the car for 6000 instead of 12000. another thing i thought was funny is when you said in the same repoert that they are doubling their money on cars and you then said they are screaming for bankruptcy.
