They called my cell phone asked for me by name and stated the last 4 of my social. - Before ackowleding I was the name, they assumed it was me and stated they were a debt collection agency attempted to collect a debt from 2003. The amount was 347.00 and they are willing to take settlement of 172.50. They did give a date the account was opened- Aug 21st 2003 and stated it was a "Money Mart" and couldnt provide any other information regarding this debt. - I recently received a credit report with all 3 agencies. So while I was on the phone with her I looked. - There was absolutly nothing showing the amount or anything of that nature in collections. I told the lady it's not on my credit report. She then stated that payday loans do not get reported to my credit. Only if I pay them they will increase my score with the debt being paid. I asked then I want some kind of invoice showing this debt before I make any payment. She then proceeded to threaten and after some choice words she hung up the call and said if I call back she will report me to the local authorities. hmmm.. So I called back. "Hey I was calling to pay off a debt, I just lost the call to the lady I was talking with"- They then said great "Mr (mylastname)-(At this point I did not provide my name at all) "How did you want to make that payment today?"- I then said, I'll pay the full amount on my debit card I just need an invoice or some kind of documentation because I do not recall owing this money." - They said" Well, we dont send any invoices this is a debt we obtained and have been trying to collect for years."- I said, "Well why would I pay a debt that you guys cannot prove that I have" - "Also this is not on my credit report at all".- They said" Well sometimes, debts this old will fall off your credit report"- So I proceeded- "Then how are you collecting?""Why would I even pay you" - I also mentioned I looked up this company on ripoffreport.com and they are showing numerous complaints of this same nature. - The guy said "Well, what are you trying to say?, that we are a scam?"- I said, "Yes, your a scam!"- He then said call it what you want and hung up...
