Shortly after moving to the state, my wife and I decided to try out the E-470 tollway around southern Denver as a bypass for the airport.  We'd gone online ahead of time to ensure that we weren't going to get stuck with exorbitant tolls (or so we thought), and decided to see whether it was worth the time savings.  There's some nice scenery, but unfortunately, it's not worth the price.

We traveled the road back in August of 2010, but never received a bill.  Months went by, all of the rest of our mail was forwarded without issue.  The couple of pieces that fell through the cracks were diligently forwarded on by the tenants residing at our old house.  And still we waited for the bill.  Finally, in June of 2011, we received a "Toll Violation" notice informing us that each $2.50 toll had in essence cost us $30.  So instead of the $19.50 bill, we got one for $239.50.  Meanwhile, we're still waiting on that first bill.

Unfortunately calling the service center gets you no where fast.  Ashley in position #8 was kind enough to inform us that bills had supposedly been mailed in late October and late November, but couldn't confirm where they were sent.  She was also nice enough to inform us that it wasn't worth attempting to request a hearing, as you can't contest the late fees and civil penalties once they're assessed.  But if I really wanted to, I could request that hearing, and pay an additional $20 PER TOLL, for the hearing officer to show us a picture of our license plate confirming that we were on the road at that date/time.  I'm not contesting that we made the drive.  I'm telling you we never got a bill to pay before all of the various fees and penalties were added.

Moral of the story, don't ever travel this road.  It's a racket, plain and simple.
