I have been selling on E-Bay for close to ten years. I have sold over 10000 items with good feedback. I just recently sold an item and when I saw the final value fee e-bay charged and something did not seem right. I thought maybe e-bay raised there rates with out me being aware of the new rates. I started to look at the fees sellers pay now and low and behold I found the reason. E-Bay now includes the cost of shipping in the final value fee that I and millions of others sellers must pay. When I contacted E-Bay they said it started in June of 2011. They said notification was sent to all existing sellers. From June 2011 until now I have been paying a final value fee on the item and the shipping charges (well over items) THAT I WAS UNAWARE OF. This is a way for E-Bay to rip off sellers without them knowing it. E-Bay says it charges nine percent but in reality they are getting much more. EXAMPLE: YOU SELL AN ITEM FOR $50.00 DOLLARS AND IT WAYS 100.00 POUNDS. THE SELLER LIVES ON EAST COAST AND BUYER LIVES ON WEST COAST. THE UPS CHARGE IS $50.00. THE BUYER PAYS THE SELLER $100.00 DOLLARS. E-BAY TAKES 9% OF $100.00 DOLLARS AND THAT IS $9.00 DOLLARS. NO BIG DEAL RIGHT? WRONG, BECAUSE IN REALITY YOU ARE REALLY PAYING 18% TO SELL THE ITEM. THE WAY IT WAS PRIOR TO JUNE 2011 WAS A 9% FEE WOULD HAVE BEEN $4.50 CENTS. IN THIS CASE THE FEE IS 9.00 WHICH COMES OUT TO 18%. IT IS E-BAYS RIGHT TO CHARGE WHAT THEY WANT FOR THEIR SERVICES BUT THEY ARE CHARGING FEES FOR SHIPPING THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH SELLING ITEMS. BUYER PAYS SHIPPING CHARGE TO ME, I GO OUT FIND A SHIPPER, PAY FOR IT AND E-BAY GETS 9%. ITS OK IF THEY GET THE 9% FEE FOR SELLING AN ITEM BUT THEY ARE NOT SHIPPING IT OR FINDING A SHIPPER. THEY ARE DOING THIS TO HIDE THE REAL FEES. IF I CHARGE A 100.00 DOLLARS TO SHIP SOMETHING TO HAWAII E-BAY CHARGES 9% AND GETS $9.00 ( THIS IS NOT A FEE TO SELL AN ITEM) THE FEE TO SELL IS 9% ALSO. THE FEEDBACK I WOULD GIVE A CUSTOMER LIKE THIS IS ( SELLER BEWARE )

If you were unaware that you were being charged the fee then clearly you don't keep good records. That's your error so suck it up.
eBay has this posted:

Final value fees for auction-style format listings
(Based on the total amount of the sale, including the cost of the item, shipping, and any other fees a seller may charge, excluding any sales tax)
"IT WAYS 100.00 POUNDS"
No, it weighs 100 pounds.
"IN REALITY YOU ARE REALLY PAYING 18%"
No, in your example you are paying 9% of the total. You are claiming it's 18% because $9.00 is 18% of the purchase price. You must take the total (including shipping) into consideration but you failed to do that in your example. Don't juggle the numbers just because you disagree with the policy.
"CLASS ACTION SUIT BIG TIME"
eBay can charge whatever fees they desire as long as it's posted in their policies section. You would have to prove deception to win a lawsuit and that's not going to happen. I agree that they shouldn't charge that fee but just like any other business transaction we have the right to take our business elsewhere.
