I like how "Toll-Booth" is in the Outrageous/Popular Category. First off...
F* YOU e-470!
I've never had so much hate for a stretch of asphault.
I make a significant point of never EVER going on e470 because of all of the horror stories associated with it.
But I live in a house with people that do. And here's what I found.
There's two separate (but probably the same) companies that run different parts of the Northwest Parkway. So while driving down the same road to the airport and back, you get two different but very similar looking letters, with two different but very similar looking fines, with two differnt, but very close toghether times, on the exact same day. So if you pay one, it's really easy to dismiss one as paying the other, like maybe the other very similar looking letter is a duplicate. At first glance one could say "Oh yeah same time, same day, same price, I already paid that".
For the privledge of driving on thier road to the airport, you get hit with , not one, not two, not three, BUT SIX toll plazas along the way costing a total of apporixmately $20 in just tolls. That.is.outrageous. But nowhere near as absurd as the late fees. If unpaid for whatever reason, the civil penalties are $25/plaza. How surprised was my roommate when he recieved $150 bill for one trip to the airport.
"Well you shouldn't take the e470 to the airport bro"
I said in short sighted sheepish self-reverence.
A week later I get a toll thing in the mail with a photo of my license plate saying that I owe something to the tune of $30 (3.40 in tolls, 25.00 in late fees, and .60 x4 for postage, yeah they charge you for the postage, plus tax or whatever) to the people that are going straight, and I mean straight to hell over at northwest parkway.
I'd never seen a letter from those f**ks before that point. "I never take that road" I said to Marge Utne over at the NWP when I called immediately after recieving the letter. I fly maybe 20 times a year, always avoiding the e470. Plus the fines were only in one direction, how does that work? Then I remembered that my roommate (same guy) dropped me off on one fateful airport run. Which lead to him driving back through the thing, but still. Not one notice? Then an ultra late notice with some hefty fines. Thats almost 1000% interest in fines.
Then they tell you they have tracking to the post office and if you don't pay they send it to collections. BUT if you're unhappy they'll knock off like half the cost.
F** YOU MARGE UTNE, WHAT THE S** IS THAT?
You're telling me that something even though I was never notified that I owed anything in the first place wasn't drving and was charged 1000% in late fees, you're going to be nice about it and knock off half? It's not the money, this is insanity.
I f**en lost it.
You can't be upset at the mark up on gas for example, complain about it and then it half off. This has all the makings of a scam. I told her I was going to make a website about this and SEO the s**t out of it, with her name, Marge Utne, plastered all over it. But now I see that RipOffReport already beat me to it. Seems superfluous now.
Anyway Marge Utne enjoy that $30k/year job in colorado while it lasts, because it's going to be warm where you're goin.
