Someone called my wife and said he is from Microsoft and said they detect virus on the system. He asked her to check the event viewer or something like that and confirm it’s a virus. He told her system will be wiped out in 5 minutes is he doesn’t fix it. He wanted $149 to fix it and asked my wife for the credit card. My wife not being technical savvy and afraid that her system would be erased she gave him the credit card number. He asked her to go a web site and when she did he was able to gain access to her system remotely without her knowledge. He sent an email to himself from her email address saying she was happy with the service etc….
While he was doing that my wife called me and I informed her it’s a scam. She told him what I said and he hand up the phone.
Too bad this business is in Sri Lanka or I would have taken them to court for fraud and blackmail.
