We were given an option to modify our loan, spent our time since the first week of September and said our new payment would begin in January.
January came and the paperwork had been lost. This was even after I had spoken to them several times throughout the course between September and middle of January.
I had to resubmit the all the paperwork. Within the time I submitted the paper again, my husband was laid off.
Now, up to this point, we were not late.
January payment they told me to hold off on my payment since the lost paperwork was their fault, they were going to work with me on that.
Within 3 working days, my husband received a harrassing call from Francois.
She was very rude and began yelling at him for the payment being late and said we had all these late charges, at this time about $200 or more in fees.
I couldn't understand, when this was the first time we were late and we were told to wait due to our modification.
Once I told them my husband had been laid off and they said we would still be able to modify the loan because our payments were up to date. The loss mitigation or modification department was very nice and telling us one thing, but then, you had Francois calling at the other end treating us like dirt under her feet.
My payment is due on the 15th, but there is a grace period. It's not late until the end of the month. Well, it being February, I'm not late until March 2nd.
She called us on the 20th and I answered. Francois immediately started yelling at me and telling me I was late. I reminded her I had until the end of the month and we were not late!
I also told her we were in the middle of a loan modification and she said that was not notated anywhere on the account. I also told her I had already reported her from the time she spoke to my husband a few weeks earlier.
She denied it and said "I'll prove it" She looked up the old notes and realized she did call and speak to my husband. She immediately became even more rude. I gave it right back.
I reminded her that is was only the 20th and if it were the 2nd of March when it would be considered "late" call then, but as long as they receive or as long as I'm within my grace period, DO NOT CALL ME AGAIN!
She said it popped up on her screen and she has to call and has to be abrupt with people.
I told her again, that I wanted someone else to handle my account since she didn't have any personable skills and only have someone call when I'm actually "late". I then hung up.
I received 3 more calls from her direct line and she hung up on me 3 times the rest of the day.
I am now receiving at least 2 to 3 hang ups from the same exact number. No messages, just hang ups as soon as we answer.
That very same day I spoke to Francois. I called back to the person handling our loan modification.
They said they can not give us the loan modification because our debt ratio is too high. All we have is a mortgage and utilities. No car payments, no credit cards.
Since my husband is actively looking and desparately seeking a job, unemployment is all he is receiving. I work, but with the school system.
Too sum it up, they can't give me a discounted percent to lower my payment, even though I don't have as much coming in as we used to have. They can only give us a modification loan if we were making more money to handle a lower payment.
Their advice to us, was make a "short sell" on our home if we can't sell it fast enough and possibly check into working out other living arrangements with family/friends, etc...
I just couldn't believe what I was hearing. I continued to ask about all this money that was given to help people that are in our same situation.
Goodness knows, that is all they have been talking about on the news about President Obama said the money is there to help us from losing our homes.
The customer service lady said, only if we made more money could they help and even then, it would switch to a interest payment only loan. It wouldn't even go down 2 percent.
They advertise over and over about going down to 4.5%, what is up with that? It's nothing but fraud!!
