I received a fraudulent charge on my AT&T phone bill from Enhanced Billing Services Inc (Email Discounts LLC), a coupon service I have never heard of, and never signed up for.

I was charged:
$14.95 on Oct 8 with tax = $16.07
$14.95 on Sept 7 with tax = $16.07
$14.95 on Aug 7 with tax = $16.07

On Oct 31, 2007 I called their customer service number 1-888-288-3724 that was on my phone bill. I spoke with a representative from ESBI, who informed me that someone using my name, home phone, and mailing address, but a false email and incorrect birth date , had signed me up for this service back in July 2007. I told the representative to reverse the fraudulent charges, and cancel this false account. I was told by the representative that the refund would be sent within 3-5 business days but the other two refunds would have to be processed by another department since they were from more than 30 days ago.

I contacted AT&T and told them to block all third party companies who have the ability to add charges on my phone bill without my consent or knowledge. AT&T is putting the charges on dispute so I will not be charged late fees for not paying them. I am waiting to see the results so far. I asked AT&T if this happens a lot, and the AT&T rep said it does. This is unacceptable and fraudulent, and this type of activity should be prosecuted.

I have also filed a report on Better Business Bureau (bbb.org).

I was hit this month too

AUTHOR: Teri - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 03, 2010

I just checked my phone bill for this month and there were two charges from this company for $14.95 each.  I have ordered nothing and have responded to no ads from my email.  I immediately called the company and didn't even ask for a refund before they offered one to me.  That told me that they must get a LOT of complaint calls.  After the fastest "account check" I have ever experienced, she told me that while they normally didn't give refunds, since customer service is so important to them (haha!), that I'd be getting the charges reversed on my bill sometime in the next couple of billing cycles.

Scrutinize each and every bill from now on, if you don't already.

I got caught in this also!

ATT told me that they are not allowed by law to block these 3rd party charges. We need to flood the FCC with letters or emails as the regulate these charges from 3rd parties. We as consumers have little else we can do to stop this only calling the billing companies each and every month these charges occur, but be sure to watch you bill each month regardless.

Hey

This is what is happening..Imagine this charge is on your Credit Card bill...You cant call the Credit Card company about the charge. You have to call the company that is charging you the charge that shouldnt be there. "Right"

RIGHT

ATT like many other local service providers ....HAVE to bill for many other companies whether the charge is legitimate or not. ATT gets these charges masked they look like @@@ 8.95 to us as a representative. The reason is they dont belong to use as charges and we cant see the charge whether it was a good or bad charge. So you as a customer needs to look at the bill we send and to dispute the charge that does not belong to you.

BE A GOOD CONSUMER

Read your bill and dispute charges that dont belong to you.

Call the ESBI OAN and etc and tell them these dont belong to them...

Email Discounts LLC: DO NOT ENTER FREE DRAWINGS/GIVEAWAYS ONLINE! The 'fine print' you don't read costs you $14.95

AUTHOR: Jnh - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 26, 2008

I too complained about 'Email Discounts, LLC' charging me $14.95 on my AT&T bill. But then I remembered something....my wife was entering online contests to win concert tickets, furniture shopping sprees, a room full of child furniture, etc etc.

Well, guess what? When you enter those contests there is some 'FINE PRINT' that goes along with that 'click' that enters you in the drawing----and the fine print allows them to charge you $14.95 when you click that button to enter the drawing.

DO NOT ENTER FREE ONLINE GIVEAWAYS OR DRAWINGS!

BE HAPPY WITH WHAT YOU HAVE IN LIFE RIGHT NOW.

GET A SHORT TERM JOB ON THE SIDE, EARN THE MONEY, AND BUY THE FURNITURE FOR YOU CHILD'S ROOM, THE CONCERT TICKETS, THE JET-SKI ETC.

If you remember what drawings/giveaways you entered, I am almost certain you can go back to that web-page and track down the 'fine print' you missed the first time.....

It's like being a child all over again.... small children will grab at the first shiny & feathery thing they see-----then when they find out there's a 'hook' in it, it's too late.
