I was recently (within the last six months) cold-called by a company claiming to be an "export and import" company in the Dallas area of Texas. I am a contract manufacturer of chips, cookies, pretzels, and other baked goods. The majority of my business is done through a local grocery store who buys our products that we produce and label for them. I have been in the food business for twenty two years and have heard just about every marketing scam there is. This one however, was an unpleasant surprise.
An individual who dropped the ridiculous title of “account executive” claimed that for a small fee they could get my products in front of international buyers. In my experience, when something sounds like a lie it usually is. I kept this individual on the phone for a bit longer to dig as much information as possible. Immediately suspicious to me was the requirement to pay up front for marketing without being told what this figure would be. The explanation I was giving was that EXIM Strategies would need to see various samples of my products to see if they were marketable. Only after seeing what the products were like could they tell me what it would cost to “retain my buisness”. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if real businesses worked this way? You just loaded up your grocery cart, then the cashier arbitrarily and lazily made up figures for each assorted item and every item was a different price each time? When I used that example to question the business model I was told “that’s not how it works” even though I reiterated exactly what I was told.
Suspicious that this company could be operating a marketing scam, or even worse, was simply looking to steal food samples, I began Googling. Immediately I ran across a report here on RipOffReport about EXIM Strategies from a year or two ago before they changed their named from “Global Trade Base”. The name Patrick Blake Donnell also appeared in another report and alluded to a felony conviction. A quick Google Search for “Patrick Blake Donnell…” autocompleted “sex offender” after the name and pulls up a TX Department of Public Safety (State Government Agency) page listing him as being convicted of possession of child pornography. Looking deeper into the Department of Public Safety page I found a service allowing one to pay a few dollars to dig up a more detailed criminal report. Within I discovered that Mr. Donnell was once charged with molestation of a child, but this charge was later reduced to harboring a runaway child, then endangering a minor. Whatever the sealed story behind that record is, there’s certainly more to it than just some pornography. It goes without saying, but the conviction was not this individual’s first felony charge.
Be forewarned! If a person is so twisted in the head that they prey upon children, imagine what else they are capable of. After reading here on RipOffReport how those who have worked for EXIM claim the whole business iis a scam, I am afraid to think of how the money Patrick acquires is really being spent.
If you have been contacted by EXIM Strategies I suggest you immediately call your local law enforcement and inform them that a convicted child molestor is attempting to do business in your city/state/county. Stay safe and remember to Google everyone these days! Even your kid’s new boyfriend/girlfriend could be a predator in hiding.
