I originally booked one of the many hotels for my honeymoon in Italy thru Expedia.com. My itinerary from Expedia states that the rate was quoted in US dollars. It was the ONLY hotel that I couldn't pay right away. I could only pay when I checked out of the hotel. The Euro rate per night that the hotel charged me matched up with my Expedia itinerary so my husband and I thought that the rate would convert in US dollars to be the same as what we were quoted by expedia on our itinerary. When I got my credit card statement, the amount that was in US dollars was $195 more than the rate I was quoted when I booked my hotel thru Expedia. I contacted Expedia on numerous occasions and they gave me the run around. First saying that it was because of taxes and incidentals which I confirmed we had NONE and that we were only charged for the room. Expedia then back tracks and states that it was due to the Euro conversion rates changing so I am responsible for the difference. Which was NOT disclosed to me or did not appear anywhere on my original itinerary. I contacted Hotel Buca di Bacco and they said they cannot do anything because of the Euro conversion rates. I strongly feel they do not allow you to pay upfront thru Expedia so they can make more money- total SCAM. I contacted BBB and have received responses from Expedia saying they will not do anything even though it is in black and white that the rate they quoted me is in US dollars- they are still saying it was because the Euro conversion rates changed. I tried to dispute that small amount with Capital One and just got in an arguement with a supervisor who told me he feels sorry for me. Unbelievable. Capital one is saying- they cannot do anything more to help me and that my case is closed. Expedia.com falsely advertised the rate for this hotel and now I am stuck with paying more. Had I known this was the case- I would have never booked the hotel. Booked 4 other hotels- and was able to pay upfront and had no issues. This is ILLEGAL and Expedia.com has to be stopped!
