i was looking for dsl internet service, that would work with my Win98se computer, which also did NOT have ethernet or a network interface card (NIC)
i was assured by 'digital landing' an earthlink associate that earthlink would work, and that i would recieve wall filters as i only have wall phones
i was told that if i canceled before i recieved a bill i would not be charged
that was April 4, 2008
on April 7, 2008 i called earthlink and was informed that my dsl service would not start until April 16, as they had line issues in my area.
on April 16, i recieved my modum, no wall filters as i was assured, but line filters, and I also found out that earthlink service would not work with my computer as i do NOT have an NIC card
i called earthlink, and canceled, i was given a cancelation number, and assured that they would send a return ticket for this modum, which would take two weeks to get. I was also assured that as long as they got this back before the first bill, i would not be charged
i have never recieved the return ticket.
i have never recieved a bill
however, i have been charged 171.10 to my CAPITAL one credit card
i reported the charge as fraud.
it was taken off and i was assured that it would not recur
it was AGAIN charged to my new capital one card
and this time CAPITAL one would not remove the charge
thereby allowing earthlink to again commit fraud
what do we do?
how do we fight this?
surely this continued fraud on earthlink's part can not be allowed to go on?
what consumer protections do we have?
