Ellen Hughes, Paralegal; The McGee Company Ellen Hughes, Paralegal: Overcharged, Threatened and Created IRS problems for my company. Denver Colorado

Ms. Hughes, Paralegal and Owner of The McGee Company, is someone that I consider untrustworthy, incompetent, and threatening. Our relationship was cordial until I discovered that Ms. Hughes did not always tell the truth. After confronting Ms. Hughes with my findings that she could not deny, things got ugly.

My company paid her $1,729 for a Federal bit that I later found out could have been completed by a real lawyer for only $1,000. She began threatening me with phone calls and even came to my office twice demanding more money. Dealing with Ms. Hughes became a nightmare.

When Ms. Hughes threats stopped she then posted a scathing and fabricated version of what happenned on this site and claimed that I was the culpret! This is what she did: "Ms. Ellen Hughes claimed she had numerous telephone contacts with NurseCorps' "government designated contracting officer" and attempted to charge NurseCorps for these lengthy conversations.

When NurseCorps contacted the same designated official to verify the conversations, the official stated they did not know who "Ms. Hughes" was and had no recollection of ANY conversations with ANY NurseCorps representative during the period Ellen Hughes had claimed.

When Ms. Ellen Hughes was confronted with this finding, she could not give an explanation, but instead simply said, they're wrong and I'm right." Then she refused discussing it any further. "Ms. Ellen Hughes attempted to "pad" her bill by over charging for idle conversations with NurseCorps. These discussions related to her attending school and starting her new business as a "hypnotist" (yikes!) in the healthcare industry (in retrospect a frightening thought).

Our conversations regarded inquiries regarding healthcare marketing, who to contact in the Denver hospital systems, and other topics unrelated to the Federal bid. At the time I was happy to help but did not realize that Ms. Hughes was "milking" the conversations for the purpose of adding to her charges. "Ms. Ellen Hughes' work was haphazard and incomplete to say the least.

NurseCorps, Inc. paid Ms. Ellen Hughes 1729.24 for completing a VA bid. The result was that Ellen Hughes made numerous mental and avoidable errors throughout the bid. These mistakes included leaving fields and vital areas blank and entering incorrect information in the fields. In addition to this, several vital documents were left out from the bid when it was submitted to the Federal Government.

One key document submitted was left "completely blank." "Due to the lack of attention to detail that all government bids require, the bid was ultimately rejected. It was returned to NurseCorps for what can only be described as a complete overhaul. I paid Ms. Hughes $1,700 plus and wound up doing the whole thing over myself! "During the bid process NurseCorps underwent an IRS audit that reviewed Ellen Hughes, a.k.a., The McGee Company as a "1099, tax exempt" vendor. The determination by the IRS was that the company's structure was not a legitimate" 1099 stand alone company. That she did not qualify for the tax status she represented herself as having. The costly consequence was that NurseCorps had to pay the IRS for back-taxes with interest.

The IRS said Ellen Hughes, a.k.a, The McGee Company was violating tax law. Again, Ellen Hughes' only response was, "they're wrong and I'm right." End of discussion! She took full advantage of me in her invoicing for work she did not, would not and could not verify. Not to mention all the errors she made on the bid. I already figured out I could not argue with her but after the IRS incident, that was the last straw. I could take no more.

My only regret was that I wound up taking what happened to my company personal. But this is my business. It provides for my family and my employees who are relying on me for their own livelyhoods. I am straight forward and play fair with people and expect the same in return. She violated that trust. I would never work with such a person again and would not recommend anyone else does either.

I cannot understand why after 2 years Jim Lott is posting on this matter again. It's been 2 years since he ripped me off, 2 years since he sent me a rude e-mail swearing at me, 2 years since he screamed at me. His post is basically lies. A lawyer friend of mine (who I have done a lot of work for and knows the quality of work I perform) offered to sue Lott for me. I declined because Jim Lott is such an volatile and ugly person to deal with; I just wanted to put the whole unpleasant ordeal behind me. Now, 2 years later, Lott is attacking me again? What is his problem? His posts now border on harassment. I originally posted about the situation because not only did he rip me off, but I found out about 2 other people he ripped off. I wanted to save others from finding out the hard way. I should have taken my own advice and just left this all alone. Because of this recent post by Jim Lott, I believe him to be unstable. I hope he gets the therapy he so desperately needs.
