I would like to point out that Detrimental Reliance or promissory estoppel may be applicable regarding my concerns with Estefan Enterprises. A promise was made-The A/R Department promised me a meeting with Mr. Estefan that was suppose to lead to his "hands on" involvement in the project that I presented.
Relying on the promise-For the first five years I was promised the meeting and told to be patient that Emilio Estefan loved my project and was "going to do it" and that my foot was in "the door" because of my history with the A/R Department of Estefan Enterprises. After five years this promise was reasonable and foreseeable to me.
I had actual and reasonable reliance on the promise because I was then asked to continue my relationship with Estefan Enterprises via their Media Relations Department, who also spoke to Emilio Estefan about me, my project, and what the A/R Department had promised. Shortly thereafter, Media relations told me to go through Emilio's assistant who also communicating with Emilio about the project and me.
In fact, his assistant set a date for the meeting and assured me that she handled Emilio's agenda and that when she put it on his calendar there would be no rescheduling. The reliance I had by the close to seven years of promises WAS detrimental. Since all I kept hearing was that Emilio loved my project and was going to get behind it, I had no reason to present it elsewhere.
In addition, having to travel to Estefan Enterprises offices numerous times throughout the years had me cancelling medical appointments at the VA Hospital. I was always told by the A/R Department that the meeting could come off at any time and that I should be ready to fly out on short notice. And there were other sacrifices that in some way could be viewed as detrimental.
Having Estefan General Counsel Jesse Abad promise a resolution answer via my complaint with consumer service FLA only to ask for several extensions each time with a different excuse, and after nine months not following through, well that only added to the enormous frustration that Estefan Enterprises had subjected me to and that continues to this day. But, quitters never win, so I am not going anywhere until I receive a satisfactory resolution to this matter.
The recent incident where mention of the vet from New Jersey had Emilio Estefan "side stepping" the topic and then changing the subject before quickly excusing himself from the conversation with our mutual friend in Miami has lead me to believe as I have for years, that he is aware of all this is simply does not care. I want him to know and understand that I have suffered because of his inability to correct my concerns. His lack of compassion for a disabled vet who deserves his
respect, who believed in the promises of his company, and who has asked him repeatedly to explain how and why this happened only to be ignored is not only the poorest of judgement on his part, put is completely unprofessional.
Instead of accepting awards and publishing success and cook books, if Emilio Estefan had taken a few minutes to
respond to my concerns with an honest answer, I would never had made my story public. Everything I am saying is the absolute truth and I have documents to back it up. I would welcome the opportunity to set the record straight, but I will need Emilio Estefan's cooperation.
