Called to complain, they said "Take that up with your friend, not our problem. Don't bother to dispute the charge, because we will just keep charging your card". This is their stance. Believe the manager's name was Ann. Plan to file lawsuit for triple damages, as this is fraud.
Called again today to warn them of plans to file suit, and was told "you gave us your card, we can charge it for whatever we want". I want the public warned that enterprise believes that they can charge anyone whatever they wish whenever they feel like it, without permission.
I have contacted the media, filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and if I am not refunded by noon tomorrow, I will sue them for the maximum amount allowed by law. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!!!!

I won!

This is my final attempt to work out this matter of fraud and theft concerning Enterprise Rent-A-Car. My friend, Keith Andrew Ackerman, residing at 504 (edited), rented a car from you, for which Allstate insurance was supposed to be paying the entire balance. We both went to return the car at the Fort Jackson/Broad River Road branch. They asked for a show of good faith on the payment. My friend did not have any money on him, so I put down my debit/visa card to pay $75 as a sign of good faith.
It was stipulated on the receipt that this was the only amount your corporation would debit my card. This was on 9/24/2004. On 9/28/2004, your corporation, without my consent, signature of contract, or anything else, debited my card an additional $98.17. I called the branch manager, whose name was Ann and she said We just wanted to settle the account, get your friend to pay you back. Don't bother calling the bank to dispute the charge, because we will just keep charging your card. I immediately called Bank of America, and disputed your fraudulent charge. Bank of America decided that since it was not a banking error that the issue is between your corporation and me.
I called Ann again, who said You gave us your card, so we can charge it whatever we want, whenever we want, that's the law. I called the Columbia Police Department to report this Fraudulent/Illegal charge, and they suggested that I sue. After reviewing this over with my attorney, I am offering you one more chance to return the stolen funds to my card. If you do not, I will be filing a lawsuit for actual damages in the amount of $98.17, and punitive damages in the amount of $10,000, plus court costs. Your actions caused me not to have enough money to eat for a few days, pay my bills, fill up my car with gas, etc.
If you refund my card by 12:00pm, Eastern Standard Time, I will not follow through with the lawsuit. If you do not, this will go to a jury. I have already filed a complaint with the better business bureau, reported this story in its' entirety to the television station WIS, posted this on the site http://www.ripofreport.com, and have posted this on my website, receiving over 14,000,000 hits a month: http://www.predatoryfish.net (statistics verifiable at http://www.predatoryfish.net/webstat). Please do the right thing, and credit me back my $98.17. If you do not, this will cost you much more in the long run.
Sincerely,
Joshua H Smick
504 S. Beltline Blvd, Apartment F6

I think they were trying to lessen my spirit/hopes so that I wouldn't sue. They were dead wrong, and made the right choice.

I was so shocked at your lack of intelligence, that I forgot to add this:
Any idiot with half a brain would have looked at the start of the post, and used deductive reasoning to figure out that THIS WAS DONE AFTER THE CAR WAS RETURNED, as Enterprise DOES NOT CHARGE THE CARD BEFORE THE CAR IS RETURNED.
You say you quit, then why in the world are you reading a message board defending a company that you are no longer employed at? One of two reasons.
The first is that you're unemployed, and cannot find another job after being FIRED from Enterprise, so you still defend the company in the psychotic hope that the higher ups will see this and hire you back. Or, the more likely reason is that you work for the company, and you read the site every day to respond to every comment posted about the company (yes, I believe you're a company mole). You are precisely the reason I hope that they do not respond by noon. Your company has no leg to stand on, and will be paying me for the damages inflicted.

Read Contracts before you sign!!

When you gave the credit card, you had to sign a credit card authorization form. This stated you are responsible for any charges towards the rental that are refused by a third party or the driver of the rental. That would include gas, mileage, taxes, or any cost difference the insurance company didn't agree to pay. But, you probably don't remember that part. Do ya? Simply put, if you would have read what you were signing and asked questions and listened to the Enterprise employee before leaving that day, there would have been no problems.
As far as your friend goes...they are not much of a friend if they are sticking you with any bill towards that rental. If there was a balance that your friend owed...they should have paid it, put gas in the rental before return, or stayed on top of the insurance company to make sure what size car the insurance was paying for and for how long. It was customers like you that made me quit because I couldn't deal with the ignorance of the average consumer. It got old.
