I have lived in one of the properties owned and/or operated by Equity LifeStyle roperties, inc (Qail Meadows Mobile Home Community in Riverbank California) for almost 9 (nine) years. i own the double wide mobile home in which i live. When i first moved here, i purchased my home allready placed here, my space rent was $466.44 per month(which included sewer and garbage). i thought that was high then for simply renting the space to park the home, knowing that none of the landscaping, new lawn put in by me, sprinkler system installed; porches or stairs rebuilt and or refurbished -- NONE would go with me in the event i ever want to move my mobile home! my rent has increased every year until now i am paying $734.09 (base rent they call it) PLUS $22.79 sewer, PLUS 17.50 garbage. for a total of $774.38 PER MONTH!!!! This seems to me to be the real defenition of "HIGHWAY ROBBERY"!! The most sickening thing of all is watching the retired people on fixed incomes (our senior citizens) be pushed right out of their homes and into the streets!! The company (ELS) may give them a very minute fraction of the worth of their "retirement" home because theres no way they can afford the rediculous SPACE rent, and literally 'kick them to the curb'!! never looking back, never offering ANY resources they might be able to turn to; simply counting all their money on the way to the bank!! there MUST be something that can be done! We in this community even raised monies to hire a lawyer and get rent controls passed by law.... for what? ELS doesn't give one iota about ANY ONE or ANYTHING except the all mighty dollar. what a shame.
