He then explains that I need to obtain software from an assigned "vendor" based in Accra, Ghana, by wiring $300 via Western Union to a name and address there. Even though my background checks of Hi-Tech Export came up clean, This raised a red flag. I am aware of the notorious proliferation of scams that seem to originate from the West Africa region. I looked up similar scams out of Ghana involving such transactions, and the story is always "there was a car accident, storm or other calamity, and your shipment was lost. You'll need to send more money."
So I contacted the REAL offices for Hi-Tech Export in India and presented the offer letter. They claimed that they have had several inquiries into this matter and that it is a scam, and they're working diligently to protect their clients (which include many Fortune 500 companies) from fraud. HTE has over 750 employees, most of whom live in India and commute to a traditional office job. So don't accept correspondences claiming to be Hi-Tech Export offering at-home employment.
