Esurance Big Ripoff San Francisco California

I bought a 6-month policy from Esurance on 2/29/2008 for $515. The day after my policy became effective (3/20/2008) I received a notice stating that "information we received regarding your previous insurance carrier is different from the information you originally provided during the application process." As a result, my policy premium had been adjusted accordingly and went up to $650. A difference of $135 -- over 25% higher.

I called Esurance and inquired about the reason for this change and found out that the "variance" had to do with my limits for coverage. I explained to them that I had clearly told the rep who wrote the policy that I currently had 25/50 coverage and wanted to move up to 50/100. He wrote the new policy accordingly, and then Esurance turned around and charged me more because the rate I received was based on me already having 50/100 coverage. This was clearly not my fault and I could not control the rep who wrote the policy, yet I am being held responsible for their mistakes. I was told there was nothing they could do about this. What a ripoff!! I also have to ask -- why didn't they do this BEFORE the policy went into effect?

It is clear to me that Esurance has shady business practices and I would recommend to anyone considering them to rethink their position and find a real insurance company.
