I went into Everest with the best of intentions especially after the collapse of the economy. I spent $15000 for a Medical Assistant program. I got lucky and got an excellent teacher, however, I cannot say the same for many other students that did not receive the same education I did in other classrooms from teachers that are not even certified nor even there to teach 3 out of 5 days of the week. That is just one issue I have with Everest. My main concern is that I delivered, I was a serious student, I only missed class twice in the eight months I was there and that was because I was in the hospital with diverticulitis. My problem is; I graduated October 23, 2009, did my externship and have yet to get one phone call, text message, email, nothing from Career Services helping me to land a job as an entry level Medical Assistant. As a matter of fact, I have personally went back to my school to get my transcripts or what not and have spoken to these Career Service Employees and asked them what is up?! They can only tell me that they are very overworked and will be working with me soon. Well, that was months ago, here it is February 2010 and I have gone ahead and taken a Phlebotomy Course and will soon be licensed and hopefully get a good job. I have taken my education into my own hands but I can only think of all the money these people have taken from so many well intentioned students only to leave them high and dry! They do not even help you to become certified, you are on your own for that! This College needs to be shut down because of fraud and please stop those insulting commercials...need I go ON?

I would say the only for profit education sector that is not a complete scam is the test prep sector (i.e. preparatory courses for SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE, etc). For better or worse, most of the big test prep services are more or less honest about what they offer. They don't guarantee jobs or degrees, & some even give you a refund if your scores do not improve over a previous attempt.

I believe that almost every for-profit college / training company is a rip off. But you state that they did not help with your certification. I think that it is probably ok that the certification falls to you unless they tell you that they will somehow help with it - if you study medicine, law or accounting at even the best schools it still falls to the individual to pass the med board / bar exam / cpa exam.. Granted the materials covered in class should relate to the exam - but it is common to spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours prepping for these tests..
