For some reason certain hotels on Expedia seem exempt from having critical reviews written about them. The first time this happened to me was in 2005 when in San Francisco my girlfriend and I literally had to walk out of a disgusting hotel, and even though Expedia did nothing to help us, and the hotel charged us anyway we were unable to leave a review of the hotel to warn other travelers.

The next time this happened was when I traveled to NM. The hotel had failed to maintain the pool and I felt deceived especially since in a review from 2 months before, another travler mentioned the hot tub being out of order. My most recent attempt ironically was when I was going to leave a glowing review for the Marriot Warner Center.

I was leaving it a 5 rating in all categories but in my tips to travlers I warned of the obnoxious valet parkers demanding keys even for people self parking. For some reason that review was deleted, and I have actually seen scores change on the hotel with the same two reviews. I think I saw a third one and now there are only two again.

In any case my experience is proof enough of deceptive marketing because Expedia gives the appearance that it allows unhindered ratings of hotels by actual travelers. When I have sent emails to Expedia, all I get back are form letters telling me how to leave a review.

Just warning people

#1 Consumer Suggestion

totally agree

AUTHOR: Thesadreality - (U.S.A.)

Yep, that's the corporate world. Hotels.com & expedia.com & hotwire are one person with 3 faces. All lying. AT times it's better to first read the report on tripadvisor and then book directly on the hotel's own website. Avoid these fraudsters. Put them out of business.

Same experience with Hotels.com and Expedia

AUTHOR: Steve - (USA)

I  know for  sure that they  manipulate the reports because I  submitted  several reviews after returning from a  10 day trip.  the  nice ones were posted immediately,  the  bad ones  never showed up  even after resubmitting them several times.

I  called  their  CS  and  they  told me to send them an email.  I  never got a  response  from them.

It  appears  as  if  Expedia and Hotels.com  is  one and the same  company.  Under  Hotels.com's   FAQs  there  is an email  address  reviews@hotels.com    if  you send an email  to this  address  you will  get an automated  message  from  reviews@expedia.com

I  believe that this is  consumer fraud:  I  have  seen  Hotels  with  10  reviews  and only 2  of  them  were  negative.  these  2  reports  were in a  foreign language,  one of  them in japanese.

Then  there are  Hotels  with  10 or  15  reports and  each one of  them gave the highest  possible  rating  of  5  stars for each category.  I looked  up  that same place on Tripadvisor and got a  completely  different picture  about the same place.  It  is  possible  that some of  the reports  were posted  by  Hotel employees or friends of the owner.  It is  very  convenient to   post  false reports  that  actually  lie about the Hotel rather than lying  in  the  "official"  description. that way  Hotels.com and Expedia  can always  say "it was  just a  guest,  we don't  have anything to do with  this..."

Trip Advisor give a totally different picture of the same hotel

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

I  just saw that  the reports on "Tripadvisor.com"  for the same hotel give a  totally different picture  of the same hotel.  I  should have  pulled up these reports first before  booking on "Expedia"  since  I  used  Expedia  to make my reservation I  used  their ratings to make a decision.  it  is a normal thing when you look at  the prices and the ratings  on one page.  Its  like the website wants to tell you   "You get  so much satisfaction for your money"

That  Expedias ratings  are different from "Tripadvisor"  makes  you think...

Expedias feedback system is biased and censored

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

You are right:  Expedia manipulates  the feedback that  their users leave for hotels.  We stayed in a hotel that usually charges $ 450 - $ 500,-   a  night.   We were supposed to get  a  "Full breakfast"   and had certain expectations what  the breakfast would be like  in that hotel category.  What we got was a shame:  the hotel did not even bother to offer some fresh coffee,  toast or  cereals.   We  saw  that  almost  everybody  left  5-5-5-5-5   and extremely  enthusiastic  comments  except one guy  who was not happy  with this place.  (Adobe  Grand Villas in Sedona,  AZ)

I  have  submitted my  report  three times and until now it has not been published  even if  I  tried to  be  fair and still gave  a  5   for  the room  and the attention to  little details.  Expedia would not  explain why  my  report was not published and I believe that  they don't  want to admit  that  they try to keep the rating  of  this particular hotel high.  We  believe that this is  close to consumer fraud.

Good suggestions

AUTHOR: Malcolm - (U.S.A.)

I didn't have any issues with the Marriot, but I did file my ripoff report on the Nativo Lodge in NM. My main dissatisfaction is that Expedia is the point of sale so even though RipoffReport has more readers the review is actually more useful to a customer researching a hotel on Expedia. Thank you.

Wonder who Expedia defines as a Customer?

AUTHOR: Juliet - (U.S.A.)

Lee is right, you definitely should post reports about the bad hotels, but if Expedia is preventing TRUTHFUL reviews - that definitely needs to be known JUST AS MUCH.

If people are relying on Expedia for truthful reviews, and making reservations based on their reviews, but Expedia won't permit TRUTHFUL, Negative reviews, as the hotels must pay them, for one thing, and they can't make the ???customer????? mad, or they will lose money - THAT'S WRONG.

I put all the question marks around customer because WHO IS EXPEDIA'S TRUE CUSTOMER?

I would have thought it was the CONSUMERS, evidently Expedia feels otherwise?

Better Idea

AUTHOR: Lee Ving - (U.S.A.)

Well, since the Rip-off Report is read by billions, why not post a derogatary review of the crappy hotel here instead of posting a crappy report against Expedia?

It will have more impact.
