I have contacted them on several occasions to find out where my things are and the only answer I got from them was that they are not responsible for the move once they contract the moving company. They only told me to call the moving company again and I haven't been able to get any more help or information from them regarding the company that they booked for my move. I paid for the move with my Visa check card connected to my checking account. They debited my account for 2 separate installments of $331.67 with the final $331.67 to be paid by me in cash or money order when my things were delivered. They (Consolidated Transport) sent my order to a company (Extra Move, Inc. also known as Smart Way Moving) to be picked up. My goods were picked up by the Extra Move from my home in Detroit, MI on 11/14/05 and have not reached Dallas as of yet. It's been 6 weeks and counting and not one item that I sent on their truck has made it to Dallas.
Originally one of the drivers told me that IF they were the one's bringing my things to me it would be 2 to 3 weeks before they would get to me as they the (drivers) were taking 2 weeks off for the Thanksgiving holiday. I immediately told them that it was unacceptable and I spoke to the owner of the company by the name of Jacob and all he told me was that without a doubt my things would reach me in Dallas no later than 11/21/05. He indicated that he would have the driver of my things meet up with another driver in Pennsylvania and they would switch trailers and my things would continue on to Dallas and the original driver would be going back to New York.
I have been given a different story as to where my things are every time I call them IF and WHEN the people at Extra Move happen to answer the phone. I was told originally that I would be the last stop and that the truck would be headed to Dallas as soon as they left my house on 11/1/4/05. A week later I was told that the truck had to stop in Cleveland, and then from there it was coming to Dallas. I was told the following week that it was going to West Virginia and then coming to Dallas. The following week I was told that the truck broke down in West Virginia and the carrier had to send for his drivers to come home because the truck part wasn't delivered on time and he didn't want to pay for a hotel for them to sit around in.
The following week I was told that the truck was leaving West Virginia BUT that it had to stop in Louisiana to drop off a load and THEN it was coming to Texas. The final story has been that the truck was involved in an accident and is being held by the towing company for payment of $5,000 towing expenses. He started screaming , cursing and yelling at me when I questioned him about the accident supposedly happening just 3 days after the truck was supposedly broken down. Because of the accident he (Jacob the owner of Extra Move) had to send his other truck was to Missouri to get another load and that my things are now in New York but he didn't have a way to get them to me. So I asked where in NY are they and that I would rent a UHAUL and come get my things then he tells me that he can't tell me where exactly. He indicated that it's in a storage area in Jersey City, NJ but he couldn't give me the name of the place, the address or a phone number to call to get directions to it. And that I should call him once I get to NYC and he will take me to it that it's only about 5 minutes from the Holland Tunnel. yeah right like I am THAT stupid. If I can't get any information from him on where it is via the phone now why on earth would I pay to fly to NYC and "track him down" to get my things. That was the last conversation on 12/14/05 I have not been able to contact anyone at Extra Move or Consolidated Transport after repeatedly calling and leaving messages no one ever returns my calls. Consolidated Transport claims to be moving their offices from Grand Rapids Michigan and have a recording on to that effect. I have left 10 messages for them and they haven't returned my calls. After researching them through the US DOT I found out that they are listed as having offices in Las Vegas, NV not Grand Rapids, Michigan as advertised on their website.
I have emailed them repeatedly only to have them tell me that I need to contact Jacob and gave me his cell phone number again. I have tried to contact the driver since I had his cell phone number but he hasn't called me back either. So basically I have paid for people to rip me off!! Which burns me up to no end but if my pain has a way of helping others then it will not be in vain.
I then asked Jacob of Extra Move for his company name and address and he gave me the company name of Smart Way Moving and the address of 286 3rd Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11215.
However, when I looked up their US Department of Transportation Number 1320000 from their website, it came up with a different company name of Extra Move, Inc. with the address of 286 16TH STREET BROOKLYN, NY 11215 (516) 394-0833. At this point I knew that they were liars and thiefs for sure as they are using the same US DOT number that is registered to Extra Move on the website for Smart Way moving.
I then contacted the insurance carrier for Extra Move, Inc. (National Continential Insurance, P.O. Box 97462, Cleveland, OH 44101, (800) 937-2247 Fax: (216) 603-5061 Attention: Lisa Skoog) to get information on the company and the owner to see what I could do next. They informed me that they couldn't give me any information on the company or the owner. Due to privacy issues. But they did give me the local New York City agent's phone number.
On December 15, 2005 I contacted the New York City Agent. She indicated that she called him and he (Jacob) repeated to her the same story that he told me about the truck being involved in an accident and that he would get my things to me by December 23, 2005. I still have not received my things. I will be starting a claim for stolen goods with the insurance company and I will file a Federal case for stolen goods in Michigan.
Hindsight is always 20 /20! I am not going to let this go until I get some sort of satisfaction. Please be warned that EXTRA MOVE, SMARTWAY MOVING, AND CONSOLIDATED TRANSPORT are terrible companies to do business with.
I have lost EVERYTHING I own due to this thiefs! I can't replace many of the items that have been stolen since my parents are deceased and I can NEVER replace all of the pictures and things that I had of theirs. These people don't only steal your things they steal your precious memories!!
Avoid them like the plague: www.smartwaymoving.com, consolidatedtransport.com please do not use these companies!!
