I am a former manager of an eyeglass world in Phoenix, AZ. While I could drone on and on about the shortcomings and sneaky business practices of this company, I will not. Fact is, I am not a disgruntled employee. Nobody likes to lose their job, but I was happy to be gone. After nearly a year (Which is a lifetime for eyeglass world managers), I was done.
Instead of telling you about the deceptive business practices I was instructed to use, I will turn this into a positive. I am going to save you some money. Here's the scoop --- The company has a "No one walks" policy that every employee is bound to. Basically, we were instructed to hit the customer with the high price, and if they balked, nudge it down a little. Right before the customer was going to leave, the employees were instructed to come get me and I would offer what is known in eyeglass world as "THE WALKOUT PRICE". This is the rock bottom price that employees must offer to anyone leaving or risk being fired.
To save yourself all the trouble, here is what I suggest - either A) Shop somewhere less sneaky. OR B) Tell the sales rep (Opticians) that you want walk out price or you are leaving. You can expect the following prices for two pairs of glasses -
Single Vision - $128
Lined Bi Focal - $148
Progressive - $208
These are approximations, because honestly, I didn't care enough to remember how to rip people off. You can expect these prices tp be for nice glasses. Don't let them tell you that it is only for the plastic "BIG UGLY" frames they keep towards the back.
If you have shopped at eyeglass world in the past and were one of the majority that was not offered these prices, simply file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. www.BBB.org It's fast, it's easy, and best of all Vision Care holdings is so oworried about keeping their file clean in order to move into an IPO that they will dance around like trained monkeys to make you happy.
Hope this helps you. And please keep in mind, it is not the employees at the eyeglass world locations that are behind this sneaky dealing. The hate it as much as you. Unfortunately, their upper management threatens their jobs with it. For the most part, I have found eyeglass world to have great employees, and REALLY REALLY REALLY good Doctors. Too bad that the same can't be said for it's management team.
