I made an agreement back in 2002 with this company to pay a monthly fee. I set up a payment plan and have been paying on time for the past 5 years. I found out today, they are not in business anymore and have not been since 2002! I blame myself mostly because I should have questioned why I was not receiving receipts of payment received. All of my other creditors sent statments!

Who has been getting your money?

Through your bank, you should be able to find out who has been getting your money all these years. If FCNB is no longer in business, then hopefully your money has been going to whoever acquired them. Just because they are out of business does not mean your debt is erased. Try to find out who has been getting your money and have them send you a breakdown of money owed and money paid. If you're lucky and the books are really bad, the new company may not have any evidence of you owing money and may be putting your payments into a suspense account, not knowing where to credit them.
