A guy came to my door claiming he's in some kind of competion and want me to vote for him. He gave me a sad story saying that it is tough being in this competion because his competitors are female and they always gets more vote/points. So I figure fine I'll vote for you, not knowing that the only way to vote for him is to buy a magazine. He responed, "Great! can I come in and take your information as a reference?" Again, not knowing that he is trying to sell me something, I let him in. Also, it was raining hard that day. I felt sorry for him. A bad human nature, to let stranger in the house. Long story short, He said in order for me to vote for him, he get points if I purchase a magazine from him. And also, the money is going towards charity. So my thought was at least I am putting money towards charity. Furthermore, he gave me a list of magazines and the price and it was outragious. Shape Magazine, 24 issues for $50, but I kept on telling myself that it is going towards charity. Then, before I wrote him a check, he ask if he can inconvience me by going to the bank and get cash. I said no. I wrote him a check for $50, then he slapped another fee on the table. There was a $15 processing fee. By then, I am too nice to tell this guy no. He also informed me that there is a 3 day cancellation but told me not to cancel. The next day, I filled out the cancellation notice, mail it to the address on the receipt. 5 days later my check was cashed. I called the number on the back of the receipt and spoke with a rep, who was really rude, and she told me that they have not yet received the notice of cancellation. I told her it has been 5 days already, you should have received it and her reponse was what address did you mailed it? I told her the address printed on the receipt along with the cancellation policy. She said,"Oh, we have a change of address and they should forward your mail to us." Then with her attitude tone of voice,"We will send you a postcard telling you when we received the notice of cancellation." I felt so boxed in, and stupid knowing that I just got scamed. It is easy for them to say that my notice of cancellation got losted in the postoffice and they are not responsible for it. Wow!!! FYI...Never buy anything from solicitors.
