Had your car towed by Marshal Kenneth Giachetta?  Did you go on-line to NYC Dept. of Finance to learn how to redeem your car?  Did you then, after following all of the instructions to a tee; including calling to find out what the final charges? Then after reading that part about "accepting American Express" decide not to carry the cash around the sketchy neighborhood where you are about to venture to redeem your car, you head on the subway to an unknown territory.  You arrive at Far Better Towing Company; a run down mobile home on a dirt plot, you speak through a 4" hole in a cracked glass window to a clerk who tells you that it's $100 more than you expected AND they only take cash.  Did you then canvas the neighborhood to find the bodegas with ATM (that work) to get out $200 increments (their limit)? Did you find the other 3 or 4 bodegas to get your $200 increments? Then did you walk back to Far Better Towing and hand over the $800 buck it cost for you to get your car out of the pound for having 3 parking tickets?

If you did all of the above, then you must know how I feel.  If not, then I'll tell you...I'm pissed as hell.  There is no regulation for this industry of night stalkers who go around the city looking for cars with tickets 90 days old, towing their cars away and holding them for an arbitrarily set ransom.  In my case, it was $500.  But, also just as worse, is that they don't have to hold up to the Redemption Instructions on the Department of Motor Vehicles website.  I can only imagine how the poor fella feels that has to borrow the money from a credit card, or doesn't have a credit card and has to find friends or family to get the money from, or worse, has to forego feeding his family to pay the impounder.  This is a Ripoff!!!
