My husband shipped my custom built computer tower via FedEx to my temporary work assignment location. He packed the tower in the box it came in with several layers of bubble wrap. He also insured the package for $1500 in case something were to happen.
When it arrived, I was horrified to find that there was a dent in the side of the steel case. When I opened the tower, I found that all of the internal components were lying at the bottom of the case, the heat sink supports were bent downward, and several of the hard drive mounting pins were either broken or bent out of shape. I also noticed that one of the hard drives had been broken off the cables. The graphics card was also found lying on the bottom of the tower. The metal supports were bent, while the clips that held it in place to the tower were still engaged. It appeared that my tower had been dropped repeatedly with force to cause so much internal damage. Needless to say, the computer would not function.
FedEx denied the claim, saying that the bubble wrapping did not provide enough cushioning to prevent the damage and allowed the tower to move around in the box. They said that styrofoam would have protected it???
I'm shocked and disappointed that FedEx so blatantly destroyed my personal property and now refuse to pay for at least part of it.

I understand your frustration. We shipped a computer to Arizona on November 18th but hired Goin Postal to ship it for us but also had them repackage the computer for shipping. When the computer arrived it arrived in the same condition as your computer did. FEDEX is jerking us around about this. Don't drop your claim but rather file suit against FEDEX. That is what we are going to do, we intend to file against FEDEX and Goin Postal for damages.

Fed ex is correct, you did not ship it according to their guidelines. Go to the fed ex website and look up their packing guidelines and you will see there was insufficient packing. they won't pay any claim on any package that does not meet their exact guidelines. lesson to be learned: Have it professionally packaged according to fed ex's specifications if you are concerned about damage. Having recieved computers in the mail frequently, it definately does not sound like you had the right packaging. You say you shipped it in the original tower box? Teh box the empty tower came in? that box wouldn't have needed to be as well packed, it was just an empty case.

Did you look at the pictures I submitted? Or read all of what I had written? I stated that it was a custom built computer (custom built by ME). The box was shipped in the original TOWER package, the tower did, in fact, fit in the original box with multiple layers of bubble wrapping. FedEx didn't deny the damage occurred during shipping, they denied the claim because they claimed the packaging wasn't adequate to protect the computer. There was an independent inspector sent by FedEx that came to my house to take pictures and confirmed that the damage was caused during shipping. You say that these damages COULDN'T happen, when in fact, they DID happen.

The damage you described was not caused during shipping. The hard drive contact pins would not have been bent even if the box was dropped from a few hundred feet. The graphics card would have been loose but not in the bottom of the case because it should have been secured with a mounting screw.

Electronic merchandise is very tightly packed when shipped from the factory. The original styrofoam and several layers of bubble wrap could not possibly fit together in the original box. I doubt a single layer of bubble wrap could fit in the original box with the original styrofoam.
Apparently either you or your husband is attempting to cheat FedEx. You know it and FedEx knows it.
