Our family purchased an Amana refrigerator from a local franchise dealer. Approximately 5-7 weeks later we began receiving a ton of snail mail from Federal Warranty Service Corporation--however the letterhead stated 'Amana' extended warranty information, so we assumed it was directly from Amana, which it was not.
The advertising pieces are slick and sell you a lot "promises" stating how there are no deductibles,no replacement costs, quick service ( sometimes one day) and service you can trust. Nothing could have been farther from the truth. Nothing.
We are a working class family, so money is always very tight. After receiving a massive amount of mail soliciations from these unscrouplous thieves, we decided to pop the $228.00 and get an extended 5 year plan for our new fridge. After one year of ownership, the fridge leaked under the freezer and there were huge puddles of water all over our kitchen. We knew we had a major problem and immediately called the warranty service number on the contract.
The gal that answered the phone was rude and completly incompetent. She was more intereted in telling me what WASNT covered and that we would be charged for a full service call ( $200 +) if the problem was found to be our fault. I asked her exactly what she met by "our fault" ( as if we knowingly destroy our kitchen appliances). She replied with, ...'Well I cant really define that, but we're suppose to warn you anyway."
I then attempted to schedule a service call and was given a day a full WEEK out. By this time I was losing my patience and getting very fed-up. I advised her that our new fridge was LEAKING water and that we couldnt wait a full week-- to which she said, "I'm sorry that's all we have availalbe and the longer you wait to book your time, the longer out your service call will be.."
I had to call a local service repair company to fix the leaky fridge because we simply could not wait a week or a day for that matter.
I then decided to immediately CANCEL this useless service contract on the spot and here is what I had to do:
1. Write to the company ( P.O. Box in Atlanta) there is no physical address and state reason for cancellation, contract number, name, address, etc.
2. Wait 2-4 weeks to receive a reply and cancellation notice, then wait another 2 weeks to get a refund check.
3. The check amount refunded, DEDUCTED all of the weeks it took this slime ball of a company to "process" my cancellation request instead of making it retroactive to the date I had mailed in the request.
Shame on me for not looking at the other multiple Rip-Off Reports by the same name for this piece of S%#t company. Never again will I buy any type of extended warranty ever. Stay away from these crooks. A much better option is to join Angies List or get referrals from friends, family, neighbors to a trusted local appliance repair company and use them.
These extended service contract are BS.Stay away. I hope this report will help someone out there not go through the same dismal experience we had.
