My fridge stopped working 2 months ago, I dug out the extended warranty from the store and called them, they sent out a repair man the following week. He arrived and procceded to tell me he could not repair a fridge that was not plugged in for 24 hrs, I did so and the following day called again. 5 days later he arrives, turns the fridge around and looks at the back, then asks me is this the compressor ? needless to say I was quite disappointed when he asked me to hold the fridge while he kicked the compressor with his boot and then cut wires to test something, which he left the pieces laying on my floor. He then informed me that it was the compressor that was bad and that it was covered under the GE warranty ( which is also Federal warranty service corp ) and that he would need to file a report and they would contact me.
After over a week of waiting I heard nothing so I called them again, then they told me that since the GE warranty covered the compressor that I would need to contact them. I called and set up an appointment to get it checked the following week and they came and said yes it is the compressor and it would take a few days till he could install it. so he finally came and installed it and left and the next day nothing had changed.
Called again and waited a few days for them to come back and when they did they found a wire that had been cut and a new connector installed but not crimped. he fixed it and left and the next day a saturday it worked, monday morning it was broken again and I called the extended warranty people and told them the compressor had been fixed and that the fridge was now not working.
so I called the GE number on the receipt from their visit and thats when I realized that both warranties were covered by the same company and they told me they would contact me. a few days later I called them again and after a few hangups and redirects I finally was connected to a manager and she spent her time explaining that yes they were the same company but the warranty I got from the vendor was an older policy etc etc and that they needed to explain it further to me but the man to do it was dealing with another customer and would call me that day. they close at 5 and they never contacted me.
I am handicapped and on social security and have no car and cant walk so any food I buy and cant eat must be thrown out unless I happen to have a friend bring me ice, my food bill has tripled and it has used up all my savings to eat and if it continues I will have to start not buying medications so I can eat. What I do not understand is why if they are one company can they not repair my fridge and fight about in in house later ?over the past 2 months I have been relying on canned food and as a result I have now got a problem with high blood pressure to go along with my other ailments.
