I have written bad checks. Or just have dated them wrong. My account will occasionally get over drafted. For the past year myhusband and I have argued relentlessly about the account. They say we overdraft it and after I go through the finances there is no way it was overdrafted. Or the companys will take out the cgarghe and they will charge us an overdraft fee and then the company will put it back and we wont get the overdraft fee put back. They are making out with hundreds of dollars just this yr. And i am ready to file criminal charges on them.

Interesting.

Yet the bank is the bad guy, huh?

Oh, Steve.

AUTHOR: Eddie zilker - (U.S.A.)

You're doing such a great job, making people feel poorly about their decision to use Rip-Off Report to post their grievances.  You left out a few things, like how they could so stupidly open an account in the first place when banks are pulling in a whopping 38+ billion dollars per year in revenues from over-draft fees.  It would be better if the ten percent of people financing day-to-day banking operations pulled out entirely.  I wonder what would happen.  The banks would probably have to find a new tier of customers to victimize.  Only I wonder what would happen, then.

Instead, they stupidly continue to fall for advertisements for "free" checking (Jim? :) ).  Keeping an accurate register is useless without the ability to reconcile that register with what's in the account, yet you seem intent on advising people to do just that.  I hope they fall for it.  Stupid heads.

Steve, you make intellectual dishonesty look great!  You really do.  It must be what keeps you from screaming your lungs off into your pillow, at night, crying out for the God you've abandoned in lieu of having the satisfaction derived from taunting stressed out people on the internet.

Jesus loves you, Steve.

Bouncing check days are over

AUTHOR: unknown - (U.S.A.)

You started out saying that your checks does not clear  by writing bad checks and you want the rest of us to feel sorry for you.Yep floating checks days are over with like 15 years ago.Where in the world have you been ?  Everyone that writes in here complaining about overdrafts has the same problem. Read all that has been written and tell me that none of you ever wrote a check that never cleared the bank. Or you won;t be complaining about overdrafts. All banks including National City (PNC) Citi, Chase, has complaints about them here. You wouldn't have to complain if you did not write checks for money that is NOT in your account . Plain and simple. I doubt you would get very far filing a lawsuit since you openly admit that you bounce checks.

As as far as putting the overdraft fee back into the account when someone took out money too early or too late, that is between you and that person or company not the banks. You need to ask them when they do grant your money back, to throw in the overdraft fee as well, as they have caused it. Some will and some won't. The cell phone carrieres are good at that. My bank has been doing the same thing as other banks too but I understand how they work. And as you follow the rules, you will never ever overdraft another check. I have bounced a check once in 15 years. Keep a register as well as all receipts, cancelled checks, and do not trust online bankings, ATM, or the Automated systems. This one is one you not the banks.

Good Luck

Accurately maintaining a CHECKBOOK REGISTER will solve your problems

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

Keeping an accurate checkbook register will solve your problems. Guaranteed.

The very first word in the first line of your post say it all! "I have written bad checks". So, with that in mind, HOW is the BANK "ripping you off" here??

FYI...The date on the check makes absolutely no difference as FEDERAL LAW says that a check is "payable upon presentation". So, regardless of the date you put on the check, LEGALLY that check is payable when it is presented to the bank for payment.

AND, the days of "floating" checks are over. You MUST be sure the funds are IN YOUR ACCOUNT, and AVAILABLE before writing checks against those funds.

DO NOT ever use the ATM or ONLINE BANKING to determine your available balance. ONLY your CHECKBOOK REGISTER can tell you this. NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.

2 people cannot use the same checking account on a day to day basis if you maintain a low balance in the account. This will ALWAYS cause problems. So, you and your husband need to decide which ONE of you is going to handle the checkbook.

It appears that you need major financial education, and discipline.

There is no rip off here.

And, why did you list this "ripoff" against this BANK under the category "bad check writers"? ROR does have a BANK category.

Criminal charges? Yeah, good luck with that! You need a SERIOUS reality check here.

CHECKBOOK REGISTER are the words for the day. Learn them, live them, get some discipline.
