I opened an account back in 1999 with Fingerhut for a credit limit of $100.00. I made all the monthly minimum payments of $7.00 each, when I noticed the bill was going down, I got smart and started sending at least $35.00 a month. The account had a zero balance the following year. OK, at the time I was only 18, and didn't even think to keep such statements for more than a year, so when we moved in 2001 I threw all my old account statements away.
Later on in 2002 I start receiving phone calls from them saying I owe 273.00 on the account, I kindly explained the situation and how it had already been paid, and she very rudely stated if I did not make a check over the phone that day that my credit would be affected. So I ignorantly agreed to do so.
That check never cleared my bank, so the following month I spoke with a rep. and she stated I had a zero balance since 2000 and that there were no notes of anyone contacting me about a bad debt. Afew months later, the phone calls start again and now I owe them 120.00, so I kindly told them If the expected to get paid for that, then I expected to see a bill stating exactly what I was being charged for.
I started getting a regular statement after that but it never had an explanation of the charges, I just decided to start paying it so my credit would not be affected. so i made arrangement for a settlement of 63.00 up front over the phone and 6 months of 35.00 as an ach withdraw from my bank.
Everything was fine until dec. of 2004 that is when the final payment of 35.00 should have posted, however it never did. I was unsucessful when I tired to speak with a rep, by this time all I got was an automated service.
So in March of 2005 I get the calls again saying I owe over 200.00 again. So being very tired of this I stated once again the only way I would pay that bill is if I got a copy of my payment history to them AND a detailed report of what the new charged were for. She stated she was unable to do that, so I refused to pay. This is a terrible mark on my credit and the call everyday, anywhere from 3 to 8 times a day starting at 7am until 9pm.
I have written the company and asked not to be conntacted by phone 3 times now with no luck. I'm scared to give them anymore money because I know now they will just keep calling for more. WHAT DO I DO???
To make matters even worse, my husband supposedly has an account with Fingerhut/Axsys National Bank that was opened in 2001, the same year I paid mine off the fisrt time. Yes, we ordered a grill but we refused the shipment. Fingerhut said they never received the merchandise back and we were responsible for paying the account off.
Pretty much the same ole story, we refused to pay for an item we never accepted so it went to collections,and we started to pay little by little, however now the balance on that account is also well over 200.00 and they call everyday for him as well. The company that calls say they are from "CARD SERVICES" and it shows up as St. Cloud, MN. on the caller ID.
I will no longer answer these calls and will no longer send this company money. On my account alone I have paid them well over 700.00 on an account that was originally for 100.00. My husband's bogus account is getting to be the same way. I am tired of the harassment and rudeness. My children get woken up by the phone calls everyday a 7am and the calls do not stop until 9pm. One night it was even 9:30pm!!!
They call on weekends as well, and half of the time when I answer they hang up. One girl from this company was too busy talking to a friend that she didn't hear me answer and say "hello", 3 DIFFERENT TIMES so I heard all about her plans for the weekend about getting her hair done, when I said hello for the 4th time she started laughing and hung up on me. and I know it was them because it was St. Cloud , MN, on the caller ID. Go Figure!!!! What do I do????
