Over 3 years ago, I was foolish enough to order a bedspread from Fingerhut. The total purchase price was $99 with the agreement that they would electronically take $9 out of my checking account every month.

I filled out my account and routing info and even sent them a voided chk with the info printed on the bottom. I assumed all was well until about 6 months later, I get this bill for over $500! When I called them, they informed me that everytime they ran it thru my bank, it came back that I had unsufficient funds in my account. They were attempting to run the transaction thru every ten days and charging me $20 each time.

I knew this had to be wrong because I had a $500 overdraft protection on my account. When I called my bank, they claimed that they had had no electronic hits on my account from fingerhut or any other catalog, but my bank claimed that if they were sending it thru wrong it may be possible that the bank did not recognize who's account it belonged to. My bank said if that was the case, Fingerhut would have received something from the bank stating so. When I asked Fingerhut to kindly provide me whatever it was that was coming back from my bank.

Suddenly, they were hooking me up with a supervisor named Tracy Callahan who tells me that if I send them a payment of $156, my bill will be considered paid in full and we can just avoid all the mess. Well, thats what I did....I sent the $$$. Again, I thought the whole thing had been handled and just a little over 3 months ago, I get a letter from a law firm that represents their collection dept and not only are they now attempting to get a judgement against me for another $378, they are also asking for attorneys fees and a wage garnishment.

Luckily, I kept everything documented and have contacted an attorney. So far, my attorney has been amazed at the number of complaints that have been filed with different business bureau's against this company. This is also now on my credit report....something I have worked hard to maintain. And I might also mention....the bedspread I got was a total piece of crap! It feel apart the first time I washed it. It was very poor quality. People need to think twice before dealing with them.
